Hello

Lately I'm watching a lot of foreign films, but I love pretty much anything except romcoms. Not a huge fan of the Sandler/Rogen strain of films either (pun intended). I'm certainly not a film snob and can appreciate stoner/juvenile humor (to a point), but a lot of their stuff I just find tedious.


That said, Uncut Gems (2019) was absolutely brilliant, as was The Fabelmans (2022).


I am particularly fond of noir, psychological dramas, scifi/horror, thrillers, screwball comedy and anything wilderness/outdoors/road oriented.

Old 40s-50s noir?

Oh yes .. a lot of Cagney's gangster films (White Heat in particular), Double Indemnity, Kubrick's The Killing, Asphalt Jungle.


I like neo-noir also, but a lot of it seems a little derivative and lacks that visceral "smoke-filled room" quality of the classics of the 40s and 50s

Yeah. The most political it ever got was to whether or not feminism had a say in Jeanne Deilman's no. 1 spot on the new Sight and Sound poll. And stuff like that is uber rare. Hell, that happened three years ago. Your among friends here.
