Alien Vs Pred, potentialy one of the best movies ever, right story, right actors, right effects and most important a good director and well we would have got a great movie... Unfortuntley well we got none or very few of the named above....
Paul Anderson the director, not a fan, ever since he messed Resi Evil up, I have thought he was poor.
When I 1st heard the story i was a little sceptical, a sacraficial temple, where predators come to become warriors, 3 predators every 100 years fight against aliens and if they survive they take there place in the Predator community so to speak.
Now the theme to the movie was, its there war and we are caught in the middle of it, okay maybe im a little stupid but 3 preds, 5 aliens ( i say 5 aliens cos thats how many people were sacraficed ) hardly seems like a war... more of a little get togeather, one which hardly seems fair considering the preds have lazer targeted guns which kick ass.
So i think we can establish, that there is no war, and the section of the film which shows the 3 preds being attacked by a million aliens on the top of that pyramid is a complete crap, either that or sacraficed a hell of a lot of people.
Onto to the next gripe, the time issue, 1904 these people went missing, complete mystery never solved... sweet that works quite well, its now 2004, 100 years on, all ties in... until.... step up bishop... its 2004 theres no human looking robots, no cyborgs, no spaceships which travel the world, no one knows about alien or preds ( although it is potentially possible they know about preds from the films ) as they are set in our time.
So onto Bishop, hes an old guy who wants to make his mark on life, he wants to have a legacy..... but how does the time scale come into it, its 2004, hes old, he dies in the film, there are no cyborgs, or androids, so how did he ever create Bishop in Aliens, How did he turn up in number 3...., I dont know this answer to this, and Its a very bad film flaw, one which as screwed the whole Alien Film History.....
Film starts of pretty slow, showing history, finding out this and that, pretty much echo of Resi Evil, then just like Resi Evil 1 thing happens, 10 people die in quick scenes over a span of 5 mins, scenes which are poorly scripted, over way to quick and dont really add anything to the film... In my opinion you dont see enough, maybe hes done this to keep the rating down... so he can comercialise it hollywood fashion, i dont know but its a shame.
Next Flaw, how many Aliens was there, i counted the 1st 2 to get done by face huggers, then about another 4 other people who got done.... so u had the 2 original aliens then say 4 others, so how did there get so many that the Predator in that 1 scene shoots about 4 or 5 of them, then for the aliens to back off and go and help the Queen escape, i think Mr Anderson cant add up...
Now one of the biggest criticims of the ALiens 4, was the new alien at the end, why oh why did he do that ? the directors quote was " i wanted to put mark on the genre " the only mark he should have done was one where it said i resign cos i suck at directing. So in Alien Vs Pred half way thru when it zooms into the Pred with his helmet off and the face hugger lurking by, u know what is going to happen.... its so predicatable it makes you sick and think "refund" can i get a refund please. Right at the end when the alien bursts out the chest, it zooms in and its got 4 pincers, I started crying.... WHAT HAVE U FCUKING DONE...... you have turned a potentially mint film with 2 of the best chracters in the horror genre into a hollywood show piece, for which smells, looks and breaths money making....
The ending, the last 20 mins was...... well hollywood esque all day, plant a bomb make a run for it, ride just infront of the blast, escape think its all over and then boom 1 last big fight scene at the end with the big bad guy who think u have just blown up.
Perfectic and corney would be an understatement.....
So my final opinion, the costumes looked good, some of the effects upto scratch, the fight scenes between the aliens and the preds was also pretty snazzy.... ( unfortuntley they was far and few between )... but that is where it ends, poor story, poor actors.... to many quick death scenes, poor attempt at humour ( its meant to be war, with bad ass mother fcukers ) we dont want lameass humour. So over all a 6 out of 10 for me.....
