Before the film ended, several people had thrown sodas at the screen.

Catfish. They lied to us all so we would go see their lame documentary. Good thing I had a burnt copy.

Star Wars Episode I : The Phantom Menace
F this film. Never has a portion of my childhood been so viciously stomped upon as the evening I sat down to watch this turd.

The best thing about this movie, was this review :
&feature=related
there is actually 7 parts to this thoroughly entertaining review.

Is it just me or were the vast majority of the films mentioned so far, obviously going to be ****? Even those that may not have been, Episode 1 or Avatar (both of which I thought would be, BTW) couldn't possibly live up to the hype and expectation loaded onto both films and, therefore, were always likely to be mentioned on a list such as this by a good number of people.

For me it was that Godzilla movie with Matthew Broderick. I saw the trailers and thought that it was going to be AMAZING in all caps, I couldn't wait to see what could be done with one of my childhood favorites with today's technology, and in the hands of the makers of Independence Day, a movie that I still unashamedly love. I went to a midnight showing, got a free Godzilla film frame with my ticket (it was his tail bashing a building)...
And then I saw the movie. I was so so sooooo let down. Godzilla didn't LOOK like Godzilla, he spent a TON of time off screen, the human characters were LAME, and the Baby Godzillas? I liked them better when they were the velociraptors in Jurassic Park, and also when they were the Aliens in Aliens...oh, and Godzilla being a she? What the hell was that?
I trashed the film frame, and I wasn't the only one.

The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions . You could argue I was as big a Matrix fan you can get, and to wait 4 years for well promoted sequels and have them turn out the way they did was very disappointing to say the least. I wouldn't say they are awful or anything as there are aspects to both films that I liked, but overall the drop in quality between those and the first film is significant.
I actually allowed Reloaded to slide after seeing it as I figured that it was only going to be the prelude to much greater and more interesting things in Revolutions, but what can you do? Not every film you go and see is going to be perfect, init.

For me Avatar is the bread winner. I actually took time to go to a theater and watch this. At the end everyone started to clap. Me and HLime just looked at each other and started to laugh.

I agree that Avatar wasn't as great as the hype around it claimed. However, it had expectations set up so high, that I almost feel bad for it. haha Overall, the plot was predictable, but in a sense, is kind of what people who fall in love with a culture or way or life would do. Once we are introduced to something that is appealing to us, and we learn to love others as ourselves, it makes sense that we would not want to destroy them, but become them, especially if they do not seek economic growth as their main interest in communication with others. But, I did love the special effects and graphics. I found them beautiful, and refreshingly breathtaking.

Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines. In my opinion, the most disappointing film of all time. I like The Terminator and I absolutely love Terminator 2, but this was a stinking turd of a film. It's only redeeming element is watching the laughable efforts to reboot Arnie's famous catchphrase.
Shutter Island. Love all of Scorsese's work (GoodFellas, The Departed, Cape Fear, Casino, Taxi Driver etc), but this was a slow moving, lackluster effort from the master film maker. Although it was well-acted.

Something tells me you don't really "love" all of Scorsese's work if you find Shutter Island slow. Kundun and The Age Of Innocence are two that instantly come to mind.

WARNING__ Meet Joe Black SPOILER BELOW.
I really wanted to like Meet Joe Black, and I admit that I enjoyed watching most of it, but I just can't get over the ending where Death gives Susan back her young boy-toy human Pitt. The fact that he had the power to do that kind of negates the finality of his draggin off her father, whom he considers such a great guy. Didn't make sense to me.
Now what I would've really liked to see, was Susan getting pregnant from her carnal encounter with death, raising a daughter who turns out to be the most extreme Gothy Emo you could encounter, paints her eyes black, and hangs out in her room all day, driving her mother crazy. Now that would be worth an extra 45-60 minutes!

were also epic disapointments for me. Both for the same reason really, each of its predecessors were so much fun playing aroound with the conventions of its particilar genre.

Frantic (1988)
I was SO pumped to see this. I absolutely couldn't wait. Then, I watched it was shocked at how just plain weird and quite ridiculous it was.
Wrongfully Accused (1998)
I was excited to see this one, especially with all the promised Harrison Ford spoofing. The trailer even looked good. We didn't get past the first twenty minutes of it. It was like a low-grade Spy Hard.
Minor Disappointment:
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
While this was a major disappointment for many and understandbly so, it was not that bad too me. However, I was SO excited for it, and it fell so far short of the originally trilogy. I really hope I don't end up putting the 5th on this thread.

If anything I'd say I'm disappointed in Spielberg as a director. Catch Me if You Can was decent but not for Spielberg. Other than that his last great movie was Saving Private Ryan. in 1998!!! Thirteen years ago.

But Catch Me If You Can's a better film than Saving Private Ryan which is, if you'll pardon the french (not you mark) a load of rubbish with three long battle scenes thrown in.

I don't expect people to be able to learn. Since I'm a "teacher", it'a an uphill battle, but if you're past a certain age, I, unfortunately, tend to believe that you cannot be taught. I go out of my way (mostly with myself) to prove this wrong, but hey, what do you expect?
