The Road or The Mist...both grueling but great.

I'm surprised I haven't seen a post regarding Primal Fear. Edward Norton plays the role perfectly.

Grave of the Fireflies. Great movie but damn depressing.

Happiness is an extremely dark film.Darkest comedy i've seen personally.

Definitely The Road. Being an earth science and astronomy fan in one of my other lives, I know enough about the real world possibilities of an asteroid impact or super volcano explosion to appreciate what would be left of the world. The Road was pretty much spot-on. Like the wife of The Man, I'd want to check out before things got really bad. The music, done by Nick Cave, really helped to enhance the completely hopeless feel of the movie. It took me a couple days to recover from that movie and I've never been able to watch it again. It was a strange twist of fate that somebody gave me the soundtrack music for a gift and whenever I listen to a couple minutes, it's a real downer.

Yeah,,,dark and cynical and pessimistic.
