Mafia Movies

I am a big fan of Mafia movies. I find the whole lifestyle very interesting and love watching movies about it. My favorites are probably the first and second Godfather movies. Any other good ones?

"Jane Austen's Mafia" was good - ridiculously funny. Anyone else see that? Very Naked Gun-ish, and despite how good the Naked Gun movies were, it truly lives up to that standard.

I didn't think Jane Austen's Mafia was good at all.

As for real Mafia movies, I really enjoyed Casino. I thought it was very well done. Goodfellas is even better. In my opinion, Goodfellas is the best mafia movie I've ever seen (even better than the Godfather films, in my opinion).

Yes, Goodfellas was great and Casino was OK. Get Shorty is a good comedy one.

I loved Casino, but I also thought Mafia! was quite funny - the part in the pool where he un-does his hair cracks me up everytime. Just the fact that it's called "Jane Austen's Mafia!" is hillarious!

Hey, it's low-brow humor, but it's not too low-brow for me. If it's funny, I laugh - and gross humor is usually funny to me. I feel no shame in this.

I usually like the "Airplane!" type of films, but Mafia! just didn't do it for me. Can't explain why.

I'm glad someone mentioned Get Shorty, I love that film, too. (And it was the first DVD I bought when I got my DVD player). I've watched that movie at least 50 times.

In Soviet America, you sue MPAA!
Get Shorty was a good movie. I liked the book slightly better though. But my Favorite Mafia movie would be Goodfellas. That was a great movie. Or if your considering Pulp Fiction to be a mafia movie, then I choose tht.

Books are always better than the movies.

Well, I dunno about ALWAYS. Jurassic Park the book was good - but it wasn't as exciting as the movie - and of course the movie made things much easier to understand.

Didn't see it.
I'm having a hard time thinking of mafia movies. Get Shorty is one of my favorites.

I think The Freshman is probably my favorite.

How can you say that Jurassic Park the movie was better than the book? The book was just awesome. I can see why you would think the movie made everything more clear though. Movies always have to summarize the whole plot of the book into a short thing, and then make it simple enough that anyone can understand it, and considering JP was rated pg-13 it was made pretty simple.

The book was okay - but there was a little bit too much technical jargon. And it was much longer than it needed to be. And this is coming from a guy who does a *LOT* of reading - at least a lot more than your average moviegoer.

Book was definitely awesome - but the flick was too. Some things are better expressed visually.

I like all the technical jargon. Its my kind of stuff. Michael Crichton is my favortie author. I've read all of his books. Have you ever read Timeline? I love that book. I can not wait for the movie, which comes out next year I think.

I think I've had enough of gangster movies that glamorize the criminal lifestyle, e.g. Casino, Goodfellas. Another one of this ilk just came out...Gotti. I heard the movie blew anyway. Didn't John Gotti get enough posthumous exposure with that dumb reality show starring his gold-digging wife and three lamebrain kids? How much money is that profligate family gonna milk from the public?

But people love these movies. They like to see the things they don't have, and put them on a pedestal. I know some dudes who drool over these movies, and they believe that success only means cocktails, penthouses, expensive suits, and floozy women. Makes them more materialistic I suppose.

Maybe initially and Maybe superficially the glam Lifestyle looks so appealing but on closer inspection...they are mostly horrid characters and the rewards are often at a significant cost, a fatall cost in some cases and not maintainable.

Basically what I’m saying is goodfellas and casino imo doesn’t glamorise the criminal lifestyle if you’re looking at it as a whole and have a pretty reasonable set of values.
