#14. One Cut of the Dead (2017, Ueda)

This was my most recent entry, but I think it is well deserved. Saw this last year and it just had me rolling on the floor.
One Cut of the Dead was also among the last few films that didn't quite make my list.

I wouldn't mind taking the reins on it, assuming there isn't someone new who wants the job.
I was thinking of hosting it, but if you'd rather host it, that's alright.

I was thinking of hosting it, but if you'd rather host it, that's alright.
I'm mainly just curious to see how the new system works compared to the old way. It's always good to get some new blood though, so if you want the job then take it.

Thanks to all participants for giving me some new insights into different styles of comedy, interesting trivia, reminding me of comedies I've forgotten, the personal stories and about 30+ unseen comedies added to my watchlist. Special thanks to Diehl, Yoda and Holden for putting it all together!

Sure, I'll take the job. It sounds like fun. I'll probably need @Yoda to guide me through the process of how it works though.

Either way, also fine with co-hosting duties to help satiate the curiosity.

We'll sort all that out in the coming weeks as we figure out what's next and when and all that.

Either way, also fine with co-hosting duties to help satiate the curiosity.

We'll sort all that out in the coming weeks as we figure out what's next and when and all that.
We have already decided on what we want next and it's the 2010's countdown list what else would be next

And I completely forgot about The 'Burbs.

First off a huge congrats to all for putting this together, the most fun I've had in a countdown (so far). Granted its only been a handful, but hey.

A few disappointments and a few surprises.

#13 "Tremors" (1990)

This one baffles me because I thought this was a classic horror comedy. My second biggest surprise after "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". Both not being in the top 120...for shame MoFos's...fur shame.

#7 "Silver Streak" (1976)

Love the hell out of this and thought it would be top 25, at least. Damn, I feel like Tom Hanks in "Castaway". Anyway, my full ballot. Again, a lot of fun with this!

My Final Ballot:

Many pages ago, I mentioned has a #1 ever garnished a mere 25 points in these countdowns. Because I was sure mine was included. Believe Yoda said there was nine in this countdown alone. I do want to see this list!...(please)

Anyway, my #1 is a proud member of this club.

#1 "Little Big Man" (1970)

Jack Crabb, looking back from extreme old age, tells of his life being raised by Native Americans and fighting with General Custer. This film has so many great moments and couples it with being a universally respected film within the western genre, yet makes it dark....very dark!

Great movie but never had a chance on a comedy list.

I recently watched Songs from the Second Floor and that film surely would've made my ballot if I had watched it before this list started. Maybe sometime in the future...

That elusive hide-and-seek cow is at it again
1. Clue (1985)
2. The Private Eyes (1980)
3. Galaxy Quest (1999)
4. Raising Arizona (1987)
5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)
6. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
7. Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
8. Mom and Dad Save the World (1992)
9. Harlem Nights (1989)
10. Let It Ride (1989)
11. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
12. Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985)
13. Leonard Part 6 (1987)
14. Coming to America (1988)
15. Tin Cup (1996)
16. The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)
17. The 'Burbs (1989)
18. Parenthood (1989)
19. The Goonies (1985)
20. Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002)
21. Airplane! (1980)
22. The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988)
23. The Great Outdoors (1988)
24. Real Men (1987)
25. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999)

Since people were talking about Buster Keaton, and The General not making it, I guess I will reveal my Keaton pick. One Week, from 1920, was my #9. Saw it in January of this year and I just adored it. Not only Keaton's physical stunts and gags, which were hilarous, but also the effective sentimentality it carried. Here's the link to my review here on MoFo.
One Week was a great short by Buster Keaton, full of memorable sight gags.

FWIW I had The General at #21. It's among his most impressive. All told it was not only an interesting story, but its live special stunts were some of the best ever done. The actual live train collapsing from a high bridge has to be included in the top real stunts in the history of cinema. Imagine the expense for that 2 minute catastrophe! As of a few years ago, the wreckage of that train is still in the creek basin in Oregon.

Victim of The Night
I saw 84/100 films from this list.

Here is my ballot:

1. Blazing Saddles (1974)
2. Airplane! (1980)
3. Caddyshack (1980)
4. Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)
5. Ghostbusters (1984)
6. Young Frankenstein (1974)
7. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
8. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
9. The Awful Truth (1937)
10. Trading Places (1983)
11. Annie Hall (1977)
12. The Thin Man (1934)
13. The Blues Brothers (1980)
14. Bringing Up Baby (1938)
15. The Philadelphia Story (1940)
16. Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979)
17. Duck Soup (1933)
18. Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)
19. Some Like It Hot (1959)
20. This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
21. Fletch (1985)
22. Raising Arizona (1987)
23. The General (1926)
24. City Lights (1931)
25. The Cannonball Run (1981)

To be clear, I did not play the One-Pointer Mini-game because I didn't know it was a thing really but also because I really wanted just my 25 favorite comedies ever to get my votes.
That said, I completely forgot about Animal House somehow and it would have bumped The Cannonball Run and probably would have finished 11th on my ballot.

I am pleased that 9 of my top 10 and 20 of my 25 overall made the list.

I was really shocked that The Thin Man, The Philadelphia Story, Fletch, and The General did not make the list. I assumed that all of those were locks probably for the top-50. Like I've said before, this thread has been a real education to me on how diverse tastes can run, especially when you have multiple different generations considering.

I am, as we say in New Orleans, most gratitudinous to Diehl, Yoda, and anyone else who helped make this happen. And to all of you for your diverse takes on comedy and the great discussion that ensued.

I feel like the Top 3 of this Countdown are backwards.

(I just don't like The Big Lebowski.)
