"Getting To Know You" Song Tournament

Tools

Honestly I haven't read all of the drama posts, I just try to ignore it. For me you have done a great job with this tournament, and I can't see that you have done anything wrong.
I agree with you.
GBG, I'm sure Chyp would be the first to say you haven't done anything wrong. You've been running a great tournament, we've been enjoying it and if people have chosen to leave its been nothing to do with you.
Let's get on with it

You can't make a rainbow without a little rain.
Now GB -- since I thought you might not come back for awhile, I tallied up all the votes and posted the winners and the losers. I don't think you voted, but your votes wouldn't have changed anything.

I started Round 5 and I even randomized the songs. Is it okay if we just go ahead with what I have done already?

I'm not surprised that you continued without me, so it's okay if you go ahead and finish the tournament. Hopefully people have learned from what happened here, and nobody else will get hurt.

You can finish it. I just started Round 5. I'm sure everyone would like it if you finished it. I don't have to do anymore.

I'm disappointed, everyone!
Michael Jackson - Rock With You (4 votes)

If there was one song that I wanted to win anything, it was this one right here.

No, I won't "punish" you all by making you suffer through another epic post on why I chose a song. But I will write a very tiny analysis of it, which is why I love it so.

Rock With You by Michael Jackson

This song is, without a doubt, my all-time favorite song, which happens to be from my all-time favorite album, "Off the Wall". I have listened to that album more than any other. And I have listened to that song more than I ever have the album. I am so crazy about "Rock With You" that I can never just listen to it once. It always ends up getting repeated another two or three times in a row. I nominated this song because it is my favorite. It is the only song that I didn't find some other big connection to except for the fact that I love it more than any other song ever created. It is really that simple.

I am in Heaven from the moment the drums start in the beginning. That beat. I love the beat. Then the music starts. So now we have this nice, mellow thing going on. And then he sings. From the moment I hear the words "Girl, close your eyes", I could just die. His voice in incredible in this song. Everything about this song is just so damn sexy. I just....I just don't know. It is all so great.

And do you want to know what tiny little bit that I like the best? It is the 8 seconds between 1:24 and 1:33. Eight seconds that are absolute musical bliss.

Now, I could actually go on and on about this song. I have done it to people before. But it is much easier to do so when I can make them suffer by making them actually listen to the song. That is easy to do in person. I have no such power over the people who hang out on the internet.

With that, I will shut up about this song now and go mourn its loss in this tournament.

And I know this has nothing to do with the song, but I have to say it. I love his outfit in that video.

By the way, there is this:
I also think SilentVamp may have nominated the Michael Jackson - Rock With You song that appeared yesterday
The only person to think it was mine. So now he will get his long overdue rep for it.

Round 5

2. 4 Non Blondes - What's Up vs. Chuck Berry - Johnny B Goode

You know, I think I thought about nominating "Rock With You" for a few seconds while considering my songs because I really like the Off the Wall album, too, but I ultimately wouldn't have (and didn't, obviously) gone with that particular Michael Jackson song. But I think I did consider it. A lot of people thought that was my nomination at first.

I probably would have picked his song, "Human Nature" from the Thriller album if I had picked a Michael Jackson song.

I figured "Rock With You" was nominated by a woman and since Mistique said it wasn't hers, my mind went to SilentVamp. I know she likes pop music and '80s songs. If you like those two things, odds are you like Michael Jackson.

My favorite part of "Rock With You" is 2:15 to 2:27. When you hear that whistling sound -- I don't know what you call that instrument. It's very '70s. When you see his dancing, shimmering, glittery feet and Michael's shadow waving between them.

BTW, Captain Spaulding... I don't know where you are, but... get back in here. Please. Come vote for your song.

Like SC suspected, Driver's Seat was my last nomination to be eliminated. Being a truck driver adds a small bit of relation to the song for me, but that's not really how I think of it. I used to drive girls for a while, and Jenny was probably the most popular, and one of the girls I spent the most time with-

"Jenny was sweet
She always smiled for the people she meet
On trouble and strife
She had another way of looking at life

The news is blue (The news is blue)
Had it's own way to get to you
What can I do? (What can I do? )
I'll never remember my time with you

Pick up your feet
Got to move to the trick of the beat
There is no elite
Just take your place in the driver's seat
Driver's seat, driver's seat, yeah"

The song is also featured in one of my favorite movies, Boogie Nights, and that just adds to the whole aura of the song for me-

My nominations-

Bob Seger-Ramblin Gamblin Man

Golden Earring-Twilight Zone

Sniff 'n the Tears-Driver's Seat

Foreigner-Dirty White Boy

Linda Ronstadt-You're No Good

Styx-Too Much Time on My Hands

Guns N' Roses-Ain't it Fun

Head East-Never Been Any Reason

I didn't realize "Driver's Seat" was in Boogie Nights, but I should have known -- that movie is nothing but 2 and a half hours of music on a porno set.
