A Song For July

Tools

Welcome in HollowMan,

External linking is easy:
  1. Copy the url of the song link you want (it has to be a free to access link - most of the time we tend to use YouTube)
  2. Type the text of the song or whatever in a response ... i.e. "The Beatles - In My Life"
  3. Highlight the text
  4. In the list of optional actions at the top of the response box (where italics, bold, underline etc. are) click the picture of a globe with 2 links of a chain underneath it
  5. In the box that comes up paste the url you copied earlier
  6. Edit the "www" in the link to "m"
  7. Click ok and it will wrap the HTML for the link around the text and that's it

You can verify it looks right and even that they work by previewing the post.

For example here's the one for The Beatles - In My Life

Thanks, however I don't see the symbol of the globe with chain underneath. The only symbols I have are smiley face, bold, italic, a person, warning, speech marks and the picture one. I'm using a tablet if that makes any difference.

Ah, I'm on a Mac and get this:

Do you get a "Go Advanced" button like the one you can see at the bottom of my screenshot? Perhaps the globe with chain underneath might be in there for you?

If not perhaps someone else that uses a tablet might be able to assist?

No advanced button unfortunately. I guess I'll just put the YouTube link in as it is.

No worries - I'll message Yoda about this when he's back fit and able but for the time being just drop the ordinary video link for each round you want to play into this thread and I'll format the links for you when I'm collating the songs for the rounds.

As far as I remember, it was always impossible to do the "m." thing on mobile. Even writing it correctly would bring up the entire youtube clip. It's a desktop thing only.

Edit: I see you're on a mac. Ops, no experience with those...

Great, thanks very much.

Oops, meant to stick reminders on Round 1 as I opened the thread a few days ago. Oh well, better late than never .....
@Captain Spaulding @John-Connor @gbgoodies @jiraffejustin @Sedai @resopamenic @Derek Vinyard @HollowMan @cat_sidhe @CaptainT @honeykid we've started

Round 1

1. Cody Jinks - Watch the World Die
(Apocalyptic country. Timely lyrics.)

2. George Jones - The King is Gone
(No song with "Yabba Dabba Doo" in its chorus should be this good.)

3. Cerrone - Supernature
(One of the YouTube comments summed it up perfectly: "If disco and porno music had a baby." First-time listen. Great nom.)

4. Rush - Big Money
(Strongly tempted to rank this dead last for that dorky ass music video. Gotta remind myself to judge the song on its own merits.)

5. Saving Escape - Rhyme or Reason
(Comfortable, if perhaps overly familiar sound. I'm always partial to female-fronted rock, and the song builds nicely.)

6. American - Sister Golden Hair
(Beautiful, breezy harmonies. Perfect song to play outside on a warm summer day.)

7. Toothless - Sisyphus
(Pleasant, upbeat, if a tad monotonous.)

8. The Alan Parson Project - Sirius
(I wondered why this sounded so immediately familiar. Thankfully the YouTube comments pointed out the reason: Jordan-era Chicago Bulls introductions. Wish this was 2-3 minutes longer.)

9. The Beatles - In My Life
(Simplistic perfection, but I respect the Beatles more than I enjoy listening to them.)

10. Hell on Wheels - The Soda
(A little too indie-sounding for me, though it did grow on me.)

11. Depeche Mode - Little 15
(Never been a fan of Depeche Mode. Their sound just always bums me out.)

12. Journey - I'll Be Alright Without You
(I love a lot of Journey songs, mostly for Steve Perry's soaring vocal abilities, but this one has never done it for me.)

13. Neil Diamond - Hurricane
(Don't hate it, but it definitely makes me think of elevator music.)

14. No Buses - With or Without You
(Grating.)
