Although it has flaws, the IMDB Top 250 is undoubtedly one of the most popular lists compiling the greatest movies of all time amongst both mainstream film fans and cinephiles. I thought it would be fun to devise a tournament where we can determine the ultimate best movie of the IMDB top 250.
Now, of course, to make a tournament bracket you need (unless you have byes) a number of 2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256 etc. So, for this bracket, I included the current IMDB top 250 (as of 16th November 2014) and for the other 6 movies, I added the 6 most recently to be a part of the 250. By the time this tournament ends (it will take several months), the list will have a different order and there will be a few additions and exclusions, but that's not particularly important. This isn't anything official, mainly just for fun.
With 256 participants (movies), I decided upon 64 seeds. For the rest of the films, I used a random generator to place them inside the bracket. As for the seedings, I used the same method as used in Grand Slam Tennis Tournaments, although doubling the method as this contains 256 and those contain 128.
If anyone wants to know the specifics of the seedings and how it was devised, just ask. I'll post a bracket eventually. It's currently only in Word Document form.
IMPORTANT:
To vote on a matchup, it is imperative that you have seen BOTH movies. I can't confirm this so it will be based on trust, so I hope you're all honest!
Each quarter contains 64 movies or 32 matchups, so I shall post one quarter per week, with the aim of completing the opening round by the end of December.
This took me several hours to complete, so I hope everyone is ready to vote!
