Just checking--I assume Live Animation means animation combined with live action? E.g., Song of the South, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Space Jam, that sort of thing, correct?

Update: May 3rd!

Main Challenge

Nightmare Mode

Making my way through Nightmare Mode. Might finish this month, but I've been trying to take it a bit slower and spend more time researching to find films I'll really enjoy watching (though not always succeeding. I'm looking at you, The Mount!).

Here are the categories I've finished:
You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in Paris?
watch 10 foreign language films
The Raid 2
On Gaku Our Sound
A Girl in the River
Arrebato
Dagora
Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto
Samurai 2: Duel at Ichijoji Temple
Bullhead
Antonia’s Line
Nostalgia for the Light

Really great batch of movies. Nostalgia for the Light was incredible.

I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore
watch 10 films from the same country (Hong Kong)
A Chinese Ghost Story
Drunken Master
The Heroic Trio
Yes, Madam
Happy Together
As Tears Go By
Police Story 3: Supercop
Naked Killer
The Fearless Hyena
Eagle Shooting Heroes

I can't believe it took me this long to get around to Happy Together. Naked Killer was something . . . special.

Round up the usual suspects
watch 10 films from the same genre
After Yang
Real Steel
Oblivion
Vast of Night
Crimes of the Future
Back to the Future 2
Back to the Future 3
The Time Machine
Last Woman on Earth
Small Soldiers

Meh. After Yang was great and moving. The rest were underwhelming.

Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close up
watch 10 films featuring the same actor
The Wild Girl
Me and My Gal
Big Brown Eyes
Man Hunt
The Woman in the Window
The Woman on the Beach
The Reckless Moment
Bulldog Drummond
Son of Monte Cristo
There’s Always Tomorrow

Another batch that was just okay.

I have a vision...
watch 10 films from the same director (Derek Jarman)
The Tempest
Sebastiane
Jubilee
The Angelic Conversation
The Last of England
War Requiem
The Garden
Edward II
Wittgenstein
Blue

Loved working my way through Jarman's films, having previously only seen Caravaggio. Loved seeing his staple of actors appear in film after film, and his eye for a composed image is just stellar.

All the places you’ll go
watch 10 films, each from a different country that you’ve never watched a film from before
Dead Sands (Bahrain)
The Missing Picture (Cambodia)
Viva Riva! (Democratic Republic of Congo)
Crumbs (Ethiopia)
Ludo (Faroe Islands)
The Mount (Gibraltar)
A Place in the Caribbean (Honduras)
Amira (Jordan)
Rafiki (Kenya)
The Long Walk (Laos)

Mixed bag. The Mount is probably the worst movie I've watched this year. I'd recommend Amira, Rafiki, and The Long Walk.

Breaking the waves
watch 10 films belonging to any of the cinematic movements covered in this challenge over the years
Mad Dog Morgan
Dead End Drive In
Money Movers
Cars That Ate Paris
Harlequin
Puberty Blues
Young Einstein
BMX Bandits
The Getting of Wisdom
Stork

Mixed bag. I'd definitely recommend Cars That Ate Paris, Harlequin, Puberty Blues, The Getting of Wisdom, and BMX Bandits, which was just a lot of fun.

Didn't care much for Stork, but it's historically significant, being regarded as the launch of the Australian New Wave.

The rest had their charms, but not quite enough to strongly recommend them.

BMX Bandits
Is that the one with a young Nicole Kidman in it?

And since you liked Amira from Jordan, do you have any interest in Blessed Benefit? Stumbled across that one last year and I enjoyed it. Probably the lightest prison movie that I've found.

Yes, much better than I expected. Just a solid, live-action movie aimed at a younger crowd.

Just added it to my watchlist, thanks!
