A Song For October

That elusive hide-and-seek cow is at it again
Thanks, @Captain Spaulding for the reference. I miss everything.

So I've thought long and hard on the the subject of what tracks to sacrifice up to the MOFO music gawds that are never pleased with my offerings. This month? I say screw it. I'll throw my own themed party this time around, and the celebration is a selection of soundtracks from the 80s. Right out of the gate, Real Life...

Inspired by a recently watched (and fondly remembered) B-movie story of a local, small town boy fighting all odds against big corporation and sellout commercialism in the form of BMX freestyle, I nominate Real Life - Send me an Angel, from the 1986 movie, Rad. This movie taught me that I will never be coordinated enough to even pull off a wheelie, or have enough money to buy a BMX with pegs or proper rotor. This song and music sequence within the movie taught me of love, the lengths one must go to earn it, and the devastating cold reality of heartache and loss when Cru races off into the night before Christian is able to push through the student crowd to ask his name. Lori Loughlin? I never cared that you bribed you kid's way into college. I still love you.

By all rights, Bowie probably should have been my first nom. I must admit that I did consider a track-by-track submission of the Labyrinth soundtrack album. I thought better of it, on reconsideration, as that would have been unfair to all other noms and would have most certainly defeated the purpose of the competition.

Let the night air cool you off
John Anderson - Seminole Wind

If this one is blocked for anybody, I guess any alternative is fine. This one is just much better quality than most of the others, so I wanted those who could listen to it to have the best quality possible.

I just nominated the song that's been stuck in my head for the past three weeks.

For anyone working with "www" type song links (as opposed to the "youtu.be" variety) that doesn't know how to make a song link external (rather than imbedding the video):
External linking is easy:
  1. Copy the url of the song link you want (it has to be a free to access link - most of the time players tend to use YouTube)
  2. Type the text of the song or whatever in a response ... i.e. "The Beatles - In My Life"
  3. Highlight the text
  4. In the list of optional actions at the top of the response box (where italics, bold, underline etc. are) click the picture of a globe with 2 links of a chain underneath it
  5. In the box that comes up paste the url you copied earlier
  6. Edit the "www" in the link to "m"
  7. Click ok and it will wrap the HTML for the link around the text and that's it

You can verify it looks right and even that they work by previewing the post.

For example here's the one for The Beatles - In My Life
I'd appreciate if those using "www" type links would try to do the above as it just makes it that little bit easier for the lazy dog that is otherwise known as myself

Thanks,
Chyp

Here are the results of the 'lazy dog' jury......

  1. O. Children - Ruins
    Underappreciated goth gem imo
  2. Dusty Springfield - Spooky
Classic choon - looks like hk might be theming again this time around
  3. Fleetwood Mac - The Chain
    Big F1 fan here
  4. PANZERFAUST - The Faustian Pact
Well suited to my mood today
  5. The Mooney Suzuki - Alive & Amplified
A welcome burst of energy as I'm feeling about as energetic as a week-old fart in a bath today
  6. John Anderson - Seminole Wind
Don't think I've ever listened to any of his before, quite liked it
  7. Doesn't Matter - Christine and the Queens
Usual decent hooks from a group I quite like
  8. Girlschool - Race with the Devil
One of the better tunes in their armoury (saw them live back in the day)
  9. Real Life - Send me an Angel
Easily the best song Yin has entered into this tourney thus far
  10. toconoma - relive
Grew on me the more it went on
  11. Joe Cocker - Edge Of A Dream
    Usual easy listen from Joe
  12. Aseul - Fisher
    Quite liked it, easy listen
  13. Toto - Rosanna
Not being 'Africa' worked to its advantage but it's still Toto

Being down the list doesn't necessarily mean I didn't like it ..... quite a strong round imo.

Dusty Springfield - Spooky - Yes, I'm theming again. Obvious from the start this time.

The Mooney Suzuki - Alive & Amplified - It's a nice pastiche? Affectionate tribute? I don't know, but I like it.

Girlschool - Race with the Devil - Quality from a band which doesn't get listened to as often as it should.

toconoma - relive - A minute in and I'm liking this. If it doesn't outstay its welcome expect to see this nearer the top than the bottom.

Real Life - Send me an Angel - 80's euro pop stylee? Yes please.

Fleetwood Mac - The Chain - For a UK F1 fan, this is always going to do well. Unless I find lots of new songs I really like here I can't see this not doing well for me this round.

Toto - Rosanna - Classic. But suffers when it's not the chorus.

O. Children - Ruins - Very 80's goth. Not exactly my thing, but not bad.

Doesn't Matter - Christine and the Queens - This is pretty pleasant.

Joe Cocker - Edge Of A Dream - It's Joe Cocker. It sounds like Joe Cocker. It's ok and that's about it really.

Aseul - Fisher - On another day I think this would've done better with me. Today is not that day though.

John Anderson - Seminole Wind § (alt vsn if needed) - At least it's not last. Though that may upset you.

PANZERFAUST - The Faustian Pact - Too much too long today.

01: PANZERFAUST - The Faustian Pact
02: O Children - Ruins
03: Girlschool - Race with the Devil
04: Real Life - Send me an Angel
05: Dusty Springfield - Spooky
06: John Anderson - Seminole Wind
07: Fleetwood Mac - The Chain
08: Joe Cocker - Edge Of A Dream
09: toconoma - relive
10: The Mooney Suzuki - Alive & Amplified
11: Toto - Rosanna
12: Christine and the Queens - Doesn't matter
13: ASEUL - FISHER

1 Dusty Springfield - Spooky
2 toconoma - relive
3 O Children - Ruins
4 PANZERFAUST - The Faustian Pact
5 The Mooney Suzuki - Alive & Amplified
For a band that has two former vocalists of CAN by the name, I expect it to give something more rather than a standard hard rock sound.
6 Toto - Rosanna
7 Fleetwood Mac - The Chain
8 Christine and the Queens - Doesn't matter
9 John Anderson - Seminole Wind
10 Girlschool - Race with the Devil
11 Joe Cocker - Edge Of A Dream
12 ASEUL - FISHER
13 Real Life - Send me an Angel
