A Song For October

Hmm, sounds like you might have taken that as a slight, when it certainly wasn't intended as one. I'm just noting that people clearly approach the whole thing differently. Which, as Chyp noted, is perfectly fine and works out well in the aggregate.

FWIW I don't think somebody has to be immersed in anything obscure to have a lot of songs to offer others that they might not have heard, regardless.

A system of cells interlinked
I feel like this is usually split between people posting classics because they're trying to "win" and people who want to expose other people to stuff they like and may not have heard.

I assume this bifurcation has been belabored over and over in the past before.
Clearly, I fall on the latter side of that, and would go as far as to say that I sometimes border on a troll posting extreme metal to make people sit through something they probably can't stand, but that for some reason, I find dark and beautiful in an almost poetic way. I also like a seriously wide variety of genres, so I may vacillate from extreme metal to pop to classic rock to ditching my own nom to vote a classical piece at #1.

Warning: My taste in music might be terrible.

It's fair, I'm not nuts about the vocals (though I mind them less as I hear them more). But everything else from Bloc Party is so good. Like, check out this bet, from 2:25 on:
Some great energy and I like the raw production a lot. I just have this weird thing with vocals that slide slightly out of key like that. This coming from a guy that listens to death/black metal, so my opinion of good vocals is clearly suspect!

No offense taken, I was merely explaining that in picking a song I wasn't "playing to win" I was just choosing a song that I like. If others like it too; great. If not, no worries.

As for your second point, I disagree. Immersion may have been too strong a word but obtaining obscure/specialist knowledge of any subject in life necessitates a certain level of interest in that field, unless the subject is by its nature obscure or unpopular.

With the music that I listen to, I don't think I could "play to win" even if I tried.

I count not finishing last as my winning

That's usually my goal too, but I'm not very good at it. I just can't figure out how so many people can dislike such great music.
Hey now, quit with the negativity - I'm pretty sure you've had one reach a Final more recently than I have

I don't keep track, but I doubt it.
Just had a look and we actually both got one to the Final in the last tourney. Yours finished 12th and mine 13th

My nom didn't come in last. I consider that a win!

I don't think I've even come close to picking a winning nom in this tournament, but I think it's been one of the best general song tournaments in a long time. There have been a lot of great songs nominated, and very few metal and rap songs.

That's the attitude

Glad you're enjoying it, not sure you'll enjoy my R13 nom though

I heard @gbgoodies wanted more metal
Funny that, I heard exactly the same (even before she said it)
