He was pretty much known for one role, but Dustin Diamond, who played Screech Powers on Saved by the Bell and its reincarnations has passed away from lung cancer at the tender age of 44.

I had read something about him not being part of the show's reboot and speculation about why, but a serious illness wasn't even mentioned as a possibility.

Just a couple weeks ago read that he was hospitalized. Then it was aired as Stage 4 lung cancer. WTF? Wonder if he was going through treatment prior to the news release.

Well, as much as he will be forever known as Screech, he also did appear in the kids' film Purple People Eater as one of the band members along with future stars Neil Patrick Harris and Thora Birch.
