Watching Movies Alone with crumbsroom

Not much. Been watching movies. Started a podcast. Mostly trying not to go crazy in these crazy times.
Get yourself an avatar. Right now you look exactly like MKS. And nobody wants to look like MKS, do they?

Everyone needs to go back to their old avatars and keep them that way. I have a small crisis every time one of you changes things up.

Heavy lies the crown.

Got myself a brand new one for a new forum (sorry Tak) one of my own drawings in fact!

As it is a personal creation, I will let it pass.

But MKS needs to go back to the 28 Days Later avatar. Agreed? Cool.

Good meeting, ya'll.

*pounds gavel*

No knee jerk reaction here, just want to echo an earlier post from Tak and Spaulding, that while we do have some posters like that, by and far there are plenty that are much more reasonable and even willing to listen to constructive criticism.
I was delighted when we had an influx of “corrie refugees”, and I say that firmly tongue in cheek, come aboard here because I saw how engaged they were and how much more interesting many have been when it comes to discussing movies. Many of you are on a level far above me. I’ve mentioned this before.
I find many of you fascinating. The knowledge and the ability to dissect a film astounds me. The hope, is that you may find some here similarly. Don’t hold a handful of trite posts against the whole of MoFo.

I don't know if you were ever personally familiar with the old RT forums, but if one didn't learn to flex their critical muscles fast, the flesh would quickly be eaten from your bones.

Everyone who survived there for at least a couple of years, got pretty 'roided up on auteur theory and the basic language of cinematic form, simply as a matter of self preservation.

There is probably good reason so many of us have become pathologically cinema obsessed. Fear is a great motivator.

The trick is not minding
All fair points. I'll try and branch out more and try and not let the outspoken opinions of a few color my perception too much.

Hopefully my naysaying only reflects upon me and not the other RT/Corrie posters. Except Rock. He should be blamed for everything.
No worries, I wasn’t holding it against you nor your fellow corries at all, and even agree with you. I tend to avoid those threads myself, and generally stick to reviews from others. I just wanted to be sure that it wasn’t representative of the majority of us here.

I was on Mubi back in the day and that was pretty brutal.

Okay, cool. No, not the majority. Just enough to make me feel like retreating back to what's familiar.

At least when I'm dealing with the dregs of the Corrie, like Rock, I'm dealing with MY dregs.

I totally understand. It’s easy to avoid those, however, as noted by others. I had to move away from getting involved in those threads because it had a tendency to degenerate into mud slinging.

You're my dreg too, hun

I don't post for a couple hours and come back to all these personal attacks. Unbelievable. Meanwhile MKS is the weirdo who doesn't want to watch pornography with his male friends.

...

Seriously, is that a thing people do?!?

Like most normal people, I only watch pornography with my parents.

Wait, are you saying your force your female friends to watch porn with you? Does your depravity know no bounds, Rock???

All of that aside, what do you guys think about the top 100? I take all lists with a grain of salt to begin with, so I’m not bothered by it as much as maybe some others are, but overall it isn’t too bad.

What were you guys hoping would appear? More foreign a films would have been nice, and there are a few that puzzled me. I love Quills, and Braveheart ( I know some of you are probably shaking their head at that) but they’re not 100 worthy and even I know that.

Is there a genre you felt underrepresented?

I was very pleased with it overall.

American Beauty and Braveheart were probably my least favorite films which appeared on the list.

However, there were also a number of great films which I was happy to see on the list. I was especially glad that Come and See and The Tree of Life made it as they're both in my top 10 and I didn't expect for them to make the list at first. I was also happy to see Harold and Maude make the list. There's still some stuff on the list I haven't seen, but I plan to watch them this year.
