Top/Fave/Significant Films of the 1920s

I havent seen that many films of this era but here is my favorites:

3. Metropolis (1927) by Fritz Lang




4. Un Chien Andalou (1929) by Luis Buñuel




5. Sunrise (1927) by F.W. Murnau




6. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) by Robert Wiene




7. Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Sergei M. Eisenstein




8. The General (1926) by Buster Keaton



9. Strike (1925) by Sergei M. Eisenstein




10. Nosferatu (1922) by F.W. Murnau

I know these have been on everybody's list, but I have to nominate Nosferatu, Phantom, Dr Caligari and Metropolis.

Something that makes them even better, however, is when you get those rare chances to see a good print on a big screen with live music. I've seen the Alloy Orchestra perform live with Metropolis and Phantom. In both cases the prints were great (Phantom even had the original "color" sequences restored). Somebody else I can't recall (some years ago) did music with what was the most intact print of Nosferatu. If you ever get the chance, don't pass it up.

As for Caligari, is it the first horror movie? Or maybe just the strangest, most disorienting movie ever made? I'm not sure which, but I really love that one too.
