Emperor's New Groove

So, I took the kids to see the new Disney Animated movie "The Emperor's New Groove" this weekend.

I have to say that I was very disappointed in the film. Disney has set the bar very high for their animated movies, and this one missed the mark by a wide mile.

Sure, it had some funny moments and a few funny lines, but the story seemed very slapped together, the songs were not very good, and overall, it was just something of a stinker.

I'm sure kids will like it since kids have lower standards (my kids liked it okay) because they don't know any better. But this isn't a film that will join the pantheon of Disney Classics like most of the recent Disney animated films.

Hmmm...I had a different impression.

Heck yeah: it was obvious from the very first preview that this was not a big Disney blockbuster summer flick: it's lower-level...only 1 hour and 19 minutes anyway...

...however, me and my brother (both teenagers), thought it was totally hillarious. A few of the lines were just killer - the story just didn't matter to us really. I don't go to a Disney movie for the story, usually.

It's no Disney classic, and it looked as if it were put together a little quickly (even the title implied a 2nd rate movie)....but I thought it was *VERY* funny.

Oh, I agree that it had many funny moments. I was just disappointed with the film overall. But there were many good one-liners and jokes to keep it from being just a boring hour-and-some-odd-minutes outing.

In Soviet America, you sue MPAA!
I didn't think it was that funny at all. Except for the line where they are going over the waterfall.

Didn't see it.
This was supposed to be a musical, and Sting was doing all of the music. He really hoped to come up with some songs that kids would be singing for years like Elton John did with Lion King.

Somewhere in the middle of the movie, the movie company got tired of the direction of the movie and turned it into a normal movie instead of a musical. It really made Sting mad. To add insult to injury, they asked him to write two more songs for the new version. Boy, was he hacked.

I heard he wasn't that ticked, since he's still getting paid in all - are you sure he's mad? I may have heard wrong.

There was one song in the flick - pretty good one, too.
