We follow Marie and Marie as they enjoy life.
They dress up, dance, feast, and laugh, without caring about the consequences.
As they say at the start of the film:
"If everything's going bad in this world... so... are... we!"
There isn't much of a classical narrative to be found. Rather there are thematically correlated scenes, often connected through slapstick inspired transitions. This film exudes energy, which makes it a joy to watch all throughout. The soundtrack accentuates the slapstick elements of the film, enhancing the comedic effect.
Věra Chytilová uses a wide range of cinematic techniques to fill the film with unusual visual choices, which fits well with the energy and enthusiasm that shines throughout the film. She turns Daisies into a feast for the eyes, almost as abundant as the ones Marie and Marie indulge in.
Overall I had a lot of fun with Daisies. It's short, bold and I would recommend it.
The visuals alone make this worth a watch!
