Some great ones there that I'd forgotten about. Locke and The Babadook especially.

I feel like giving Carol another go sometime just because on the first viewing I was marveling at Rooney Mara's acting but perhaps wasn't as attentive to Cate Blanchett. I love it when she mouths "I like the hat"

I think that all of these are watchable for non-anime fans.

Indeed. The Marvel cinematic universe movies smells like the putrefying corpse of American cinema: completely soulless cliche pedestrian entertainment appealing to the lowest common denominator. Although I liked the first Iron Man movie all others felt like low quality fast food.

Taking in consideration your love for E.T, Super 8 is a fantastic film, it captures that adventurous 80s essence.

Try Nightcrawler, I think you'll like that one.

Did you try every Pixar movie? Inside Out is the most mature films in their filmography. Disney films, did you try Zootopia?

The Conjuring is the best horror film of the 2010s for me.

Sing Street and La La Land are the best films of 2016.

As far as Marvel goes, try Guardians of the Galaxy, you might surprise yourself.

I remember seeing that one, it was probably the only ghibli movie that lived up to the hype. It reminded me of Pixar's Ratatouille, and that's a great thing.

You got any non-japanese obscure animated films to recommend? I can't stand japanese cartoons anymore. There might be an exception here an there, but those bug eyes, plastic skin and non-stop yelling put me off.

So in brief, nothing really wowed me in the same sense as Fight Club or E.T. or whatever. Do you have anything to recommend?

Edit: I've also seen the Lego movie. It was good, but it's not the second coming of Christ like some people make it out to be
