For some reason that name seems familiar. I think my dad might have mentioned it when I asked him to name a movie that got a lot of bad hype when he grew up. Hey susan could you PM me and just sum the movie up? I might remember then. Thanks.

R rating means children under eighteen are not admitted without adult supervision.

The first R-rated movies I saw in the theater were Outland, Stripes and Conan the Barbarian. I was eleven. Thanks, Dad!

I don't know which I saw first on cable TV, unedited for content? Maybe The Shining? All the Marbles? Apocalypse Now? I don't remember.

I just know they're coming to kill me.
Hmm...

In theaters, The Matrix Reloaded. At home, Predator. And 3 other questions:

1. susan... Midnight Cowboy? The 1969 film starring Dustin Hoffman? Was so bad about it that it had to be rated X? And it won best picture that year, did it not?

2. Thir13en Ghosts didn't come out that long ago, Yoda. How old are you?

3. And Sarge, I thought the same thing you did...

He's talking about the original one. Right Yoda?

Yes, Midnight Cowboy was X-rated in 1969, and yes it won Best Picture at the Oscars in 1970. A Clockwork Orange was the only other X-rated film to be nominated for Best Picture.

Neither Clockwork or Midnight Cowboy would be rated NC-17 today of course (NC-17 is the current equivalent of the X, which was abandoned after the porn industry essentially took it over in the late '70s and through the '80s). There was some brief nudity here and there, but mostly the X for John Schlessinger's classic was because of the sexual situations and not graphic simulated sex itself, and the frank way it dealt with homosexulaity and such.

Midnight Cowboy is a great film, with amazing work by Hoffman and Voight.

My friend Ron and I were able to get in and see Conan the Barbarian when we were 12-13.

My first X rated movie was 8 to 4; a sexual parody of 9 to 5. Unfortunately it didn't star Dolly as well.

Ahh, I knew it was something like that. Yeah, my dad told me about it when I asked about a movie with bad talk going around.
