The Lobster (2015)

So I just watched it and I do not understand what this movie is about at all. I mean I understand what happened in the plot from point A to point Z, but what this movie really about, theme wise though? What was the point of the story? Why was it even made?

Its a satire on relationships, making fun of the idea you need to be in one to be have worth, that suitability of partners can be summed up in a very superficial fashion and indeed the reverse of the first that total individualism is actually the only worthwhile choice.

Oh okay, but that's pretty much the premise though. Why did they choose that particular ending, and why did the plot go in that direction. What was the point of the ending?
