Movie Poster a Day with JayDee

That poster looks like an ad for a Freddy Halloween costume.

The Freddy franchise had more entertainment value than the other slasher franchises. I havent seen all of the Nightmares, but the ones I saw, they were fun enough.

Laurent Durieux again, with a poster for Die Hard this time which highlights the Christmas setting for the film in a fun, inventive way whilst featuring the iconic Nakatomi Plaza and also alluding to the part that broken glass plays in the film (McClane's poor feet!)

10! That's how many posters I managed before I missed a day. So whoever had 10 days in the forum pool, congratulations. Anyway onto today's offering

I love this poster, even if I have no clue what the f*ck is happening! Before stumbling upon the poster I had never heard of the film so had no idea what it was about. And still don't. Usually I'd have a look at the plot but I decided not to this time as surely no plot can live up to that poster. You've got a guy who is naked bar a space helmet and what appears to be a black leather thong. He's carrying a scantily clad, voluptious woman seemingly on the clouds over San Francisco (possibly) while other women fall through. Actually that might make for a fun spin-off game thread. Post a weird poster and people concoct a possible plot. The most creative and entertaining entry wins

Girls, Girls, Girls (aka Extremes)
(1985, d. Alan Vydra)

Miss Vicky's Loyal and Willing Slave
I decided to actually try and find out the plot after all but it's been a bit of a labyrinth. Perhaps it should have dawned on me from the poster but it appears the film is a porno! Trying to get definitive details on it though is proving very difficult. Depending where you look it was either released in 1979, 1985 of 1986. Some places say it was also known as Extremes, however imdb has that as a separate film released in 1981!

And damn that Jaws poster on the previous page was popular, only just really noticed how much rep it had. Oh and thanks for all the encouragement and enthusiasm on the previous page by the way (MovieMeditiation, edarsenal etc); glad to see people are enjoying the thread.

I know you are but what did you think about the poster?

I'm working on my flirting technique, what do you think?

As I think I mentioned back at the start I will be using themes to help me choose from the vast library of poster options I have. So I'll have periods dedicated to specific directors, actors, genres, countries etc. And today is the start of the first themed week. So did I go with a director or an actor? No I went with someone much more important; everyone's favourite bitch and the girl who makes my heart skip a beat. That's right, it's...

Miss Vicky Week!!!

And we start off with this beautiful piece of illustration for one of her favourite films of the last few years

Her
(2013, d. Spike Jonze / Artist - Vero Navarro)

Excellent design on that poster – it feels like it's based on Japanese posters but that might just be because of the positioning of the text.

It's Day 2 of Miss Vicky Week. And while I'd like to introduce today's poster and discuss its artistic merits, I uh...I'm not actually allowed to. Some silly nonsense about rules apparently

Fight Club
(1999, d. David Fincher / Artist - Dylan Dylanco)

Glad you liked it. I had a bunch of other options for Her, many of which were more high concept, but I just thought that was beautiful. When I was checking for the artist's name I found that you can actually buy it from her Etsy store. Quite pricey though

Now we come to the movie that put a real strain on the relationship between MV and myself; Mad Max: Fury Road. When I didn't share her great enthusiasm for the film she was not best pleased. It put a real wedge between us and our relationship hasn't really recovered. Perhaps it never will.

There are tons of posters out there for Fury Road, and a lot of them are worthy of posting. This one stood out however, largely because it's rather different to most. The majority of posters for Fury Road are understandably quite grungy and chaotic. By comparison the design of this one is very clean and classy. For me it has a bit of a matinee adventure vibe, somewhat reminiscent of Drew Struzan's classic work on the Indiana Jones films

Meant to comment on the Fight Club poster earlier. It's kind of creepy, but also pretty cool.

As for the Fury Road poster: Great poster for a great movie. Too bad a certain Glaswegian doesn't agree. You need to give it a rewatch. Perhaps then you'll see the light.
