forgotten gothic horror film from 80s

Hi !

Me and a group of enthusiasts looking for film of our childhood. Film was shown by TV channel in 1984..1985. IMDB scanned carefully without any results. There was a hope that someone will remember the name or studio according to the description of eyewitnesses.

The movie titles consisted of three or four words, one of them is "Jacob". Some letters had accented characters (ž, á, etc.). Letters in Latin, but the alphabet is Slavic. Title titles were performed in Gothic letters, and fire ran over them. There is also an assumption that the film was co-produced by several European countries. Film was shot in the gothic style, in the genre of realism. From the point of view of camera work, makeup, clothes, made very worthy. There are few scenery, only the necessary minimum, but considering that the camera was filming in a narrow, confined space, these decorations were quite enough. It was filmed by cameras on a magnetic tape. The film is television, the image is clear, and the colors are dim, in gray and brown tones, the lighting is diffused, because in the film it's autumn. Throughout the movie the weather was dull. The atmosphere is gothic, unusually heartfelt, with sinking in the inner world of the main character. Presence of fog or haze. Hopelessness and strain, some other feeling that everything happens in a dream, and the desire to move quickly is impossible. Main hero moved awkwardly like slow-mo, as if pressed to the ground. One of the bright memorable scenes: human heads in the witch’s basket were real and bloody with open mouths. The camera showed heads at close range.
We can not found out actor's name, but the common option that main hero look like an actor Fritz Wepper.

What do you guys think?

There's an Italian gothic horror movie (from the mid 1980s) with a character named JACOB, but the title of the film is 'Dèmoni 2 - L'incubo Ritorna'.
There are scenes with close-ups of bloodied demons' faces (with open mouths), but this film looks like a regular 80's horror flick to me, where-as you seem to be describing an 'art film' of some kind.
Check this one out on youtube here:

Unfortunately not, "Demons" is not my forgotten film.

There's a Czechoslovak horror comedy/drama film made in 1969 titled 'Spalovač mrtvol' (The Cremator), - however, in your post you describe dim colors and brown tones, yet this is a black and white production.

I observed the following when I checked this film out:
During the title sequence (2:13sec) the word JAKO appears centre screen; - similar to JACOB?
At 28:25sec there are close-ups of murder victims' faces (with some blood).

Can you recall anything more about the plot of the film you saw in the 1980s? Was it a feature length movie with dialogue, or a short 'art film' thing?

The film is based on the fairy tale Dwarf-Nose, but the version is not for children. All dwarf-nose versions which present on IMDB has been already examined without success.

Key Features:

- Often used the technique of display from the first person. The film begins with the fact that the witch slowly approaches the city market and we see her this process through her eyes.

- Jacob's father is like this actor

- The squirrels in the witch’s house were not puppets, but real.

Long movie, length about 2 hours.

Who watched the movie "Jane Eyre" 1983, will understand, the atmosphere is somewhere similar to this film, which is typically English. Partially the style of filming is like a movie "The Invisible Man" 1984.

Wow, it turns out that this one is a genuine 'missing movie mystery!'. There is a serious effort going on trying to find information about the film you saw back in the 1980s. A dedicated website has been created detailing the steps taken so far to try and identify it, and they're requesting the sharing of any info of the film, if anyone has such knowledge.
