The thing isolated becomes incomprehensible
Sorry that I decided not to join. Just didn't want to overwhelm myself.
It's ok raul! but feel free to comment on anything you might have seen or want to!

Out of the nominations I've seen 5 that I bolded. All were very different from each other and all were excellent. Good list of noms

So Proudly We Hail (Mark Sandrich, 1943)
The Bridge on the River Kwai (David Lean, 1957)

Come and See (Elem Klimov, 1985)
The Great Escape (John Sturges, 1963)
Judgment at Nuremberg (Stanley Kramer, 1968)

The Big Red One (Samuel Fuller, 1980)
Au Revoir les Enfants (Louis Malle, 1987)
Downfall (Olivier Hirshbiegel, 2004)
Lore (Cate Shortland, 2012)
Giovanni's Island (Mizuho Nishikubo, 2014)

I told GS he should have joined.

I showed him the trailer to mine. Is a great German art house film.

Save the Texas Prairie Chicken
OK. 10 Films. Seen just over half. I have easy access to 5 of them. I can obtain 4 more. But I can't seem to find one of them.

Where is "Giovanni's Island" available to watch?

The thing isolated becomes incomprehensible
Seen the one in bold:

So Proudly We Hail (Mark Sandrich, 1943)
The Bridge on the River Kwai (David Lean, 1957)
Come and See (Elem Klimov, 1985)
The Great Escape (John Sturges, 1963)
Judgment at Nuremberg (Stanley Kramer, 1961)

The Big Red One (Samuel Fuller, 1980)
Au Revoir les Enfants (Louis Malle, 1987)
Downfall (Olivier Hirshbiegel, 2004)
Lore (Cate Shortland, 2012)
Giovanni's Island (Mizuho Nishikubo, 2014)

Judgment at Nuremberg is one of my favourite movies of all time (Top 5), so it was an easy choice for nomination.
Downfall is also a part of my Top 100, an incredibly realistic movie that I really really love!
The Great Escape was a very fun watch, with an amazing cast and story! I'll probably give it another watch though is still pretty fresh in my mind, as I watched it for the 60s list.

The one I am more curious about is Come and See! I heard wonders of that film!
Also, nice to see classics as Bridge on River Kway, Au Revoir and The Big Red One, that have been on my watchlist for long!

I won't look for anything about the other nominations, as I like to enter a movie completely clueless about what it's about!

Those I've seen are in bolt, I've been meaning to watch come an see and the big red one for a very long time, the others also seem interesting.

So Proudly We Hail (Mark Sandrich, 1943)
The Bridge on the River Kwai (David Lean, 1957) (need a rewatch)
Come and See (Elem Klimov, 1985)
The Great Escape (John Sturges, 1963)
Judgment at Nuremberg (Stanley Kramer, 1968) (I think it's 1962)
The Big Red One (Samuel Fuller, 1980)
Au Revoir les Enfants (Louis Malle, 1987)
Downfall (Olivier Hirshbiegel, 2004)

Lore (Cate Shortland, 2012)
Giovanni's Island (Mizuho Nishikubo, 2014)

Judgment at Nuremberg (Stanley Kramer, 1968) (I think it's 1962)
It's 1961! --' I don't know why I thought it was 1968 and didn't even confirm it!

For those who stream, Lore is on Hulu Priime, available to rent on Amazon.com for $3.99 and available to rent on Youtube for $3.99.

28 days...6 hours...42 minutes...12 seconds
Looking forward to this one. Might be a bit depressing, but looking forward nonetheless.

Suspect's Reviews

TUS and Neiba, you think my film will be depressing? or do you mean the WWII HOF overall?

lol GS seen the trailer and I believe his response was "Holy Hell, this looks awesome!"

I'm going to watch some of these because a few were already on my watchlist and they all sound great.

I've seen Bridge on the River Kwai, Judgment at Nuremberg, and The Great Escape-all excellent.

Looks like a terrific HoF.

I think Usual Suspect means the entire field of movies will be depressing to him as they are all about war. For some reason war films don't bother me. I guess because they are so far in the past. At least I can't remember seeing a war film that depressed me.

Casualties of War (1989) by Brian DePalma was disturbing as it dealt with a Vietnamese woman captured by American soldiers to rape her and that was a big part of the story. A very powerful well done film, but emotional to. Michael J Fox and Sean Penn were awesome in it.
