Tomorrow's hint:

Plead with the judge
For mercy deserved
"If I could do it again..."
And ask for time served

Don't lose your patience
Don't try to flee
Don't try to escape
Or get off scot-free

Don't sink to the bottom
Don't fall to the ground
Don't drink the water
And don't miss the sound

Keep trying to change things
But preserve your existence
Trust all your doctors
But not their assistants

Women will be your undoing, Pépé
I really need to watch The Godfather II again. In all my years I've only seen it twice and it's been quite a while since the last time.

The Wizard of Oz was the first movie I loved and I can still remember watching it as a child on a 12" B&W TV. I still love it, but every time I think of it, I think of an incident from a few years ago. I used to work for an escort agency as a driver/security for the girls. One of the girls I would regularly work with was interested in movies and she would get recommendations from me, and often watch them on her laptop in my car. She liked very lighthearted movies and had hardly seen anything. One of the movies I told her to watch was The Wizard of Oz. One late night she came out of a hotel and got back into my car while I was parked in the lot. We didn't have another appointment scheduled so I took a nap while she put it on. Some time later she woke me up frantically and I saw we were surrounded by the police with their lights in our faces. She was terrified and I was groggy. We rolled the windows down and they started questioning us, asking what we were doing there. I told them we were watching The Wizard of Oz. They laughed and told the other officers who were there what I said. I remember yelling out the window, "she's never seen it!", and I held up the laptop as proof. Of course they knew why we were there and I knew they knew, but they seemed to get a kick out of it, and after a few minutes they let us go. I probably should have voted for it since Dorothy and Toto may very well have saved us a night in the slammer. I'm at least glad it made the countdown, but now when I think of The Wizard of Oz, instead of sweet childhood memories, I think of blue lights and hookers.
I would have thought that blue lights and hookers WERE sweet childhood memories for you

Two films from my list!

Some weird backstory re: me and The Wizard of Oz. Living in Puerto Rico, I didn't find myself as exposed to it as probably most Americans are. Although I was mildly familiar with the story, It wasn't a regular staple in local TV so I don't think I ever saw it until 2009, and much to my surprise, I was blown away by it. Loved it from start to finish. Have seen it a couple of times afterwards and I think it is, like someone else said, a magical experience. I had it at #21 on my list.
...
One important feature of "Oz" is its first rate songs. "Over the Rainbow" is perhaps the greatest song ever written for a musical, and is usually a show stopper.

Also "We're Off To See The Wizard" is very memorable, along with "Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead".

A musical for the ages.

My opinion, the greatest song ever written for a musical is " Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again."

The Wizard of Oz was #13 for me.
I have a couple of films in my list that has stayed with me from very early childhood, and this is among that number. Like so many others, I watched countlessly every year on TV and can easily remember my terrified reactions to the haunted forest and to Hamilton's amazing work as THE MOST terrifying witch in cinema.
As well as the laughter and enjoyment of watching the Scarecrow, Tin Man and especially the Cowardly Lion.
Not to mention being so bored during Dorothy singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and then, as an adult, truly loving it.
I'm also glad to see someone else was a fan of the perfectly synced up version of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon to this film. What a Stoner's Delight that was!

It does occur to me, after the talk regarding Lord of the Ring films, maybe, just maybe, Samwise and Frodo MAY have had a better time of it, walking to Mordor if they. . . oh, I don't know, just skipped?

I'll stop now, knowing full well the next time I revisit The Wizard of Oz, there will be thoughts of Blue Lights and Hookers dancing in my head. lol

Godfather II For me, the second seemed like a mirror experience taking the meager beginnings of his father and Michael's descent from the heights of the Corleone empire that is established in the original film.
A much darker and turmoil filled film that seems to hit a little harder than its predecessor and one I've only watch a couple of times compared to the countless times I've seen the first film.
Glad to see it here.

The Wizard of Oz was probably the first film I fell in love with .I watched it every year on commercial TV and it was always the most thrilling and fun film a kid could imagine. It's spectacular on a technical scale and definitely introduced a little kid like me to ironic humor and satire, and much of that was in the awesome song lyrics. I fell in love with Judy Garland and it almost seems a perfect movie to me, at least in many ways. I especially love Frank Morgan, who plays the "fake" Professor Marvel, the Gatekeeper, the Carriage Driver, the Doorman and the "fake" Wizard of Oz. The F/X are awesome - the tornado, the flying witch, the flying monkeys, the scenes in the Wizard's Hall ("Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.") I want to mention again how witty the songs and dialogue are. This film may have more indelible images than any I've ever seen. Forgive the out-of-sync video, but it's the only one with what I want.

The Godfather Part II is in my Top 100, but I've never cared for it as much as the first one. When I made my Top 100 I had recently seen II again and appreciated and enjoyed it more than I ever had before. I felt quite warm toward it, so I put it quite high up on my list. Now, having seen it again a few times, I'll be the first to say that it's really not a movie to feel warm about. The second one is more of a downer with darker characters and situations, far more episodic (which means just when you get comfortable with how it's going, it changes the time frame) and it certainly feels 200 minutes long, while the original's 175 minutes seem to me to go by much quicker. Of course there is a lot to admire in II - the performances, the meticulous art direction and cinematography and the downer "qualities" I mentioned make it more like a Shakespearean tragedy. Like I say, it's a really good movie, but I have always kept it separate from the first since, after all, I saw "Part I" first and it's a completely self-contained film. I realize that another thing that those who favor the second (or see the two as one continuous movie) like is how the second comments, highlights and embellishes performances and characters in the first. Again, that's part of its strengths, so I'm not knocking it. I just prefer the 1972 version to the 1974.
I'm pretty much in straight agreement with everything you've said, Mark. In fact, as a kid, if it was even suggested (by a mean, older sister) that maybe we'd skip The Wizard of Oz in any particular year, I'd throw a fit and practically make sure that I was blocking the dial on the TV by air time! It took me years to realize that my sister loved the movie just as much as I did, and that she made her "not watch" suggestion just to enjoy watching me covering the TV with my body.

That story over, The Wizard of Oz was on my list and I'm very glad. I was also blessed to be able to see it on the big screen, although the image was a much smaller square ratio on the giant screen we viewed it on. Still, being in that now-defunct movie palace (well, it's still there, but it's a concert venue now) in those cushy seats seeing this film was cinematic magic of the best kind.

The Godfather: Part II didn't make my list, for most of the aforementioned reasons Mark gave. But I still regard it as great filmmaking.

It always blows me away (see what I did there) that The Wizard Of Oz was made in the 30s. What an amazing feat, it holds up so damn well for being made 80 years ago. I mean you are talking what like 5 to 10 years prior color film actually getting it's footing and Oz did what it did? Crazy. The movie is obviously a classic but how it's stood the test of time is it's greatest achievement.

101 Favorite Movies (2019)

2022 Mofo Fantasy Football Champ
I had Wizard of Oz at 18 and it is quite possibly the movie that I have watched the most in my life. In a dead heat with Spirited Away for the most imaginative film ever in my opinion. Yeah the songs are great and musicals can be good after all. Probably my second favorite one ever I'd say.

I am one of the nutheads that has never seen Godfather 2. I have seen the first one three times and really do like it, but just never got around to the sequel.

That being said, I'm assuming this will be the last film to appear that I have not seen.

Also, seems way too early for Shawshank but it certainly will be unveiled today.

So with 34 left I figure these are locks...

The Godfather
Pulp Fiction
Goodfellas
Taxi Driver
Vertigo
Psycho
Jaws
The Shawshank Redemption
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Apocalypse Now
2001: A Space Odyssey
Casablanca
Chinatown
Blade Runner
The Empire Strikes Back
Citizen Kane
A Clockwork Orange
Dr Strangelove
The Shining
12 Angry Men
Back to the Future
Lawrence of Arabia
Seven Samurai
Rashomon
Alien
Se7en
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Which leaves 4 up in the air. There's about 15 I could easily see making an appearance.
