Wonder Woman

This might just do nobody any good.
I'll try and write something more in-depth in the "Rate the Last Movie..." thread but for now I'll say that I thought this was okay with frustratingly good moments.

Frustrating in that the people involved clearly could have made the whole film good, maybe even great, but couldn't due to genre and commercial requirements.

Oh boy, hearing there's an actual lawsuit moving forward against the women's' screening for this was not the way to start the morning.

Some little boys...

The most loathsome of all goblins
I would have preferred a sequel to the 2009 animated Wonder Woman film, which was excellent, but I'll still see it. I've been a Wonder Woman fan since puberty.

I plan to go in with no expectations whatsoever.

A system of cells interlinked
Just returned from seeing this with my wife and a couple of her girlfriends. Really enjoyed this one! Pretty sure my wife did as well - I will ask her when she is done jumping around in the front yard acting like she is deflecting bullets with her bracelets. Surprisingly, this flick had some emotional heft, which I guess took me a bit off guard. I definitely enjoyed Godot's performance, and I think she has some real talent. She sort of grounded a pretty over-the-top role, and I also enjoyed the fact that this film didn't just jump willy-nilly from action scene to action scene, instead taking the time to develop not only the leads, but also several of the secondary characters.

Not a perfect film, but really well done and as someone above mentioned, this feels more like an actual film than many of the other comic book flicks. Period stuff was well done. Villain was perhaps miscast, but not a disaster. Still, had a blast at the theater seeing Wonder Woman!

i agree with sedai s review, i liked it, i find that gadot has acting skills and not just a girl with charms. good film.

I did not like the movie. 5/10 for me. The First and third act are bad. The middle is alright if not great. What I am trying to say is the ending is bad. The CGI too is bad sometimes if felt like a video game. There are a couple of major plot holes that bothered me.

Legend in my own mind
Yeah, didn't like it. All been done before. Family friendly violence ???
Lacked identity, which is a shame as there is a decent story in there somewhere.

Will do more in depth thoughts later

What I liked:
Seeing a woman rescue a man for a change was refreshing. Wonder Woman is smart (speaks multiple languages) and sexy. They kept the costume traditional, but improved it with bracers and a darker tone. I also liked the addition of the sword and the shield and these weapons also made for some comic moments when walking in disguise in public. I enjoyed the humour of the movie as well, particularly the satirical comments on the social role of women in 1918. I also appreciated that they avoided the typical - hiding Ares as a Nazi, but rather casting him as a general for the allies. I think they learned from the successes of Captain America: The First Avenger.

What I didn't like:
The fact that the Amazons can be killed by bullets made Wonder Woman's survival unlikely a number of times, particularly her solo charge through no man's land while an the German army targeted her. Even her deflection of bullets is hard to swallow (she'd have to move as fast as The Flash to do that, I think). It would've been better if Diana's sister had died from a bazooka or grenade. The climax seemed a little anti-climatic, especially the way Dr. Maru just sort of slipped away without any confrontation with Wonder Woman.

I'm not old, you're just 12.
I've seen it twice so far. Loved it, obviously, but I think my girl loved it even more than I did. Between this, Logan, and Guardians Vol. 2 this has been an excellent year for superhero movies.

I thought it was pretty clear that Diana wasn't a typical Amazon, having been created out of clay by Zeus (This is not a spoiler, it's in the trailer). That's why she has powers that the others do not.

Aren't they all made of clay? There are no men on the island.

This is by far the best DC film so far. Well in the new DCEU. Not really even close to me.

MOS was too much for me. I just think Superman doesn't translate well on screen to me. At least its really hard to make him feel legit, hard to explain. He is too invincible. They did the best they could I suppose.

BvS was super choppy. I feel like there was a good movie in there somewhere. It was like a block of wood that needed to be widdled down.

Suicide Squad was just an unforgivable mess to me.

WW felt like a film. Jenkins and Gadot had a grasp for the character. Gadot is WW and you feel it. She caught a lot of **** when casted but she had 3 things going for her in retrospect.

1.) Her natural accent made her feel like she was from this exotic far away place. Masterful thinking.
2.) Even though she was rail thin when casted she is damn near 6 foot. Her height made her feel powerful and is evident.
3.) Lastly, well she is as beautiful as a goddess. Effortless beauty.

Also this isn't some man hating tribute, which it could have easily dissolved into. Which I so appreciated. When they do take shots its clever. Wonder Woman going into No Mans Land is freaking brilliant which I was totally on board with. I didn't see Ghostbusters but I heard it was obnoxiously in your face man hate. All for men being put in their place if it doesn't hit me over the head with it.

Pine was spectacular. Played and written beautifully. Jenkins knows what the hell she is doing. 3rd act was a little bloated but it still had a lot of punch to it. The mistakes are forgiveable because you care so damn much. The film will stay with you for a while after you leave. Hopefully they get JL right and carry the momentum into Aquaman because they seem to be doing him right too.
Good to hear. I'vnt seen it yet, but i admit it'llbe mainly for erotic reasons. I'm not saying it's porn. She's devastatingly beautiful and sexy, a bit more curves and muscles could help.

I liked Mos though.

BvS was so intense, deam right out diabolical.

Anyway,it's nice to see allthis Gal psychophisicalphraise, since at the beginning people were even saying she's ugly. Like 0 on a scale. She's jewish, right? Portman is also Israelite. We're getting more and more of them...

haha-I'm not antisemitic, even though I'm jewish myself.

There are a lot of men hating movies of late though, making them look like sshioles, while all women are angels. That's just wrong.

Wow. I think she's utterly stunning. She took my breath away in Date Night and I've had a lady crush since.

Welcome to the human race...

A lot, huh? Like what?

In any case, Wonder Woman is more nuanced than that. I went into detail about it on the previous page, but just to add to that, it's worth mentioning that one of the main villains is a woman.

People called her ugly?

What even..?
There's a certain member (whom I like anyway) who said it. I won't say who, where or when, out of respect for them and privacy.

Thanks.

You're right, probably not a lot, but the one I had in mind was Maleficent. Correct me if I'm wrong (seriously), but all the female characters are positive (even with Jolie taking place of the prince, who's completely marginalized, even with that kiss), while alll male ones are negative.

Iknow right. I'm in love

She has such a great voice and accent.

This video and guy explains much more eloquently with actual proof that it's actually a civil rights violation than I could. The hypocrisy is hilariously sad. Thankfully this didn't hurt the movie's business.

101 Favorite Movies (2019)

Ok anyways back to the movie. The more I think about the movie the more I like it. I think it may have moved into my 2nd favorite comic book movie behind the Dark Knight. Time will tell if it will stay there or if I am just on a fresh high. I think it will age well.

What's funny is I saw it again the other day then the next day FX had Captain America: The First Avenger. They really are great movies to compare. Captain America and Wonder Woman are basically the same character, vitreous individuals who's convictions are unbreakable, in the same story, a period piece war, meant to evoke the same inspiration/emotion. However Wonder Woman actually dragged those emotions/inspiration out of me where Cap had it's moments but ultimately failed. Watching Cap there was only 1 scene I really remembered and it was the end with the plane (don't want to spoil), meanwhile WW has half a dozen scenes I know I will never forget. Cap is a fun, entertaining flick, but I was wondering why it didn't stay with me like WW did. Then I stumbled onto a GREAT youtube video that kind of summed up why I was feeling this way. It really came down to one main reason: Sincerity. WW women's conviction and sincerity are never undermined by the story or other characters in it. While Cap's sincerity is pulled out from underneath him by "humor". Anyways I'm going post the video down below. I highly highly suggest you give it a watch. It really does articulate this 20 times better than me.
