English Brass Band movie

Trevor Howard (I think) plays a band director who disciplines a band given to discordant improvisation. They play his style to annoy him but, as they come to like him, decide to go to their previous style in a contest with disastrous results.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
This certainly is a silly and simplistic answer, but I'm logging of, so is it Brassed Off?

Then again, maybe it's ... And the Band Played On (1980) - NOT the AIDS flick.

I'm not old, you're just 12.
I was just about to say Brassed Off too, and I've never even seen the film...

My guess is:

The Shillingbury Blowers. This was the original title to "And the band played on"

So i will agree with the 2 people above

Thanks for the help. 'The Shillingbury Blowers' was apparently a 'made-for-TV' movie made as a pilot for a short-lived English TV series. It must have been released in the United States as a movie.
