The 2024 MoFo Film Awards - Nominations

Is it just me, or do the early 2024 films feel like they came out ages ago?

Thursday Next's Avatar
I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Sent in my list. I couldn't fill in every category. I don't think 2024 was a great year for film compared to the previous year and I don't think I watched enough films. I'll try and watch more of what is nominated before the final vote.

There were a lot of great films the year before last, and I don't know if that was an unusually high number, or if it was an outlier. 2024 definitely does seem less impressive in comparison though.

I hope that's not holding people back from participating. Once I finish my ballot that'll put us in the double digits, but this is the last weekend before the deadline, and I feel like I had far more lists this time last year.

I forgot the opening line.
Sent in a partial list - this is because I really didn't get my act together and see as many new releases in 2024 than I usually do. There just didn't seem to be as many "must see" movies as there usually are. I still haven't seen Anora as well, which I'm sure will figure strongly.

Yeah, there definitely weren't many (or any?) films last year that I couldn't wait to see. I don't remember being really excited for anything, really. I think the closest might have been Dune: Part Two, but I was also content to wait for that to come to streaming.

I also haven't gotten around to Anora. If it makes a few categories here, I'll probably watch it before the final voting deadline though. I really need to work on my list for the 90s Countdown however, so I just finalised my ballot instead of trying to get in any last minute watches before Friday.

I haven't seen everything, but I made a big push on the major films in my watchlist the past month and today, just published my awards and favorites of the year lists, so I could probably do a serviceable job of this.

But what is "Most Surprising"? Is it like when that spider crawled on my leg while I was watching Thelma? Or a movie or a performance that surprised you because you thought it would be crap, but it wasn't? Or is it for something like "Drugstore June", a movie that I never heard of but watched because it showed up on Hulu, and why not, I'm bored (and hey, surprise, that was fun)?

That and "Mixed Bag" are sitting empty. Other than those 2, I have fulls or partials on the other categories.

For me, I've always voted for films I was pleasantly surprised by. A film I didn't expect much of, or one I didn't really know anything about it going in.

Very good, filled that out and sent - with a few partials (like docs - not that they are bad, but it's not always my fave category and I often drag my feet in getting to them)

let me know if I threw in any ineligibles and I can change it. (I used my personal lists to draw from, and my rules might be different from the rules here).

Today is the deadline to get your nominations in!

Get your lists in by inbox before I check it tomorrow morning*!
I'm hoping to have the finalists up by the end of the day Saturday.

*-around 24 hours from now

No more nominations will be accepted!

I still have a couple ballots to add to the spreadsheets, and I haven't crunched any of the numbers yet, but it looks like there might be some surprises here!

There is also a category (or two?) that might be on the chopping block as well - not because of lack of participation in them, but because votes were so spread out across different nominations that there are not really any top contenders. I'll have to take a closer look at them later.

Expect the other thread with the finalists to go up late this afternoon, or early this evening. If you didn't nominate anything, you can still vote for a winner! You only lost the right to complain about your choices haha
