Help please....title of movie.

I'm looking for a movie where a man, his wife and child go riding the rapids with a friend. the friend kills the husband to be with the wife. the only witness is a old woman who sees the event out her window. She can only ring a bell to communicate. Any ideas of the title of this early 90's flick?

All I could think of was The River Wild (Curtis Hanson, 1994).
