Skyfall (upcoming James Bond film)

I am burdened with glorious purpose
Speaking of Ian Flemming, there is a film in post-production from the UK titled "Age of Heroes" and it tells the story of Flemming's commando unit during WWII. Seems Flemming had some action in his real life!

Looks like a low-budget independent UK film; if successful, they want to do a trilogy.

I also think waiting TWO years for another Bond film is crazy.

Bond 23 confirmed: Daniel Craig back as 007 in new film

James Bond returns to mark 50th anniversary of Dr No after surviving his toughest test ever: the bankruptcy of MGM Studios

The financial problems that threatened to ensnare James Bond have been thwarted, allowing the Ian Fleming hero to return to the screen next year in time for his 50th anniversary in film.

The 23rd Bond film will star Daniel Craig – his third stab at playing 007 – and will be directed by Sam Mendes, the director of American Beauty, a darkly comic take on suburbia that won a clutch of Oscars in 2000.

The latest Bond film hit the skids last year when MGM Studios filed for bankruptcy protection. The company has since been restructured.
The new owners of MGM, along with Bond producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, confirmed last night that 007 will be back on 9 November 2012. Production is set to begin at the end of this year.

There had been fears that Daniel Craig, a more ruthless and cold-blooded Bond than portrayed by Pierce Brosnan, would walk away because of the uncertainty.

But Craig said last year that he had "every confidence" in the films' producers and that he was looking forward to production resuming "as quickly as possible".

Since the film was put on hold Craig has been busy with other films – Cowboys and Aliens, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan have been confirmed as the writers of the screenplay.

MGM has the rights to the Bond films, based on the books by Ian Fleming. It is thought to be the longest running franchise in film history. Wilson and Broccoli took over from Broccoli's father, Albert R "Cubby" Broccoli, in 1995 and have produced the most recent films.

James Bond is easily MGM's most profitable franchise. The 22 Bond movies are third in the list of most successful film franchises, according to the website Box Office Mojo. The last film in the series, 2008's Quantum of Solace, made $586m (£381.6m) worldwide. The 2006 movie Casino Royale, which unveiled Craig as a meaner Bond, took in $594m.

The first Bond film, starring Sean Connery, was released in October 1962. Bond 23 will be part of year-long celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Dr No.

So what is the right type? There's so many people talking about Bond's personality and looks who just speak their mind without actually knowing what the Bond of Fleming's novels is like. Craig embodies the Bond of Fleming's novels.

I also think Craig signed a 4 film deal after Casino Royale so don't bet on MGM replacing him with anyone soon.
well said, also, for the nature of movies that Daniel is doing, he's perfect. I can't picture Pierce Brosnan or Roger Moore running up cranes the way Daniel did in Casino Royale.
typically I feel if there should be a successor to Daniel Craig, it should be Gerard Butler, but he will be quite old too by then right?

Just a few thoughts.

I loved Casino Royale, didn't care for Quantum of Solace (although they did include a kick ass scene from Tosca). Love Daniel Craig as Bond and I like the new direction the films are going; I just think that QofS suffered from a poor story and bad direction, things that can (and hopefully will be) improved.

Furthermore, what the hell kind of name is Barbara Broccoli? Is she from Veggie Tales?

Beware The Probe!
I liked the last two Bond movies but they didn't feel like Bond movies to me so much.
They had no fancy gadgets for one. How can you have a Bond movie without fancy gadgets?

Also, I want him drinking, smoking, gambling, and womanizing while still looking dapper and kicking ass in style.

Also…S.P.E.C.T.R.E.

He had gadgets. Gadgets that actually exist, which is very fitting considering the new, more realistic style of the previous 2 films. You probably mean that he didn't have any ridiculous gadgets like a wrist watch with a grappling hook or a wrist watch that printed fax messages or an invisible car.

There were high-standard technologies put on display in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. The medical kit in his Aston Martin for one or his state of the art cell phones. He also has a homing beacon and vitals monitor injected in his arm in Casino Royale.

Of course, the Bond with the invisible, radio-controlled submarine car was much cooler. This Bond is lame. Give me more Bond films like Die Another Day and Tomorrow Never Dies!

I like that the new Bond films are more realistic. You can keep your silly Bonds with absurd storylines and gadgets, and Bond girls with ridiculous names.

"Live forever or die trying"
The new bond films are great and very well made, big plot but everything ties in together nicely. The only thing I didn't like is there in no "Q", that and there is no really bond car, there all nice cars but not the classic rockets in the radiator sort of thing lol.

Casnio Royale was great, Quantum Of Solace was flawed but ultimately satisfying. Hopefully Bond 23 will be more noirish than the other two.

Let's hope we don't get disappointed.

Keep on Rockin in the Free World
Dude, Ian Flemming is James Bond
not quite.

Ian Fleming based the character of James bond in the novels on Sir William Stephenson.

A Winnipegger.

I am excited about the new Bong movie to see what kind of car he drives. I always love the Bond cars, although the older Bond movies definitely had the cooler cars!

Can't wait for the next Bond movie. One of my favorite franchises.

As much of a Sean Connery fan I am I actually like Daniel Craig a little better. Casino Royale was brilliant and had breath-taking action scenes. Loved it.

And I hope they NEVER pick Clive Owen to be Bond. That would be just awful.

Here, There and Everywhere
For those hating on Daniel Craig as Bond, correct me if I'm wrong, but his look and attitude is a more accurate depiction of Ian Fleming's Bond in the original novels.

Yeah, I miss all of the classic Bond Cars... There were so many of them! I especially liked the Aston Martin DB5... sigh... What a beautiful Machine!
