Don't ask don't tell

It seems President Obama is backing down on the promise made in the elections that he will abolish this practice. What are your thoughts on this matter, should gays and lesbians be allowed to serve in the military openly? Elaborate please...(I think we have some ex-service men here, I'd like to hear their thoughts on this matter).

I've always thought gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve their county... if they so choose to do so… and should not have to hide who they are. Most of the gays/lesbians I know are very patriotic… and don't go around "hitting on" every guy or chick they encounter… which is one of the major complaints I've heard against them serving…

I come from a long line of Military men and women… and when asked, all of them will tell you they have served with gays and/or lesbians… even in combat situations… and none of them ever had a problem with it...

If they want to serve, then let them. I'm sure as hell not going to. Although, I don't think we have that "Don't ask, don't tell" thing anymore over here. I could be wrong about that, it's not something that I check on tbh.

Well, personally, when I think about the military, I imagine something like Jarhead with a bunch of hot Jake Gyllenhaals running around in army fatigues, except when they need to get naked and take an outdoor shower. I imagine that these Jake Gyllenhaal lookalikes are all sexually frustrated while sitting around in their barracks.

So, for that reason, I wanna join the military... but at the same time I'm not up for a lot of strenuous fighting, boot camp, crappy work, living in a far away country, dealing with the heat, dealing with latrines, and possibly getting shot and/or killed - the works.

Should gays fight in the military? If they want to. Personally, I'd rather play military -- on the beach, in the backyard, in the bedroom.

I honestly can't think of a single reason why gay and lesbian people shouldn't serve in the military. The only possible argument against gay men in the military would be that they might form relationships with other men which would somehow compromise their focus in combat situations. But women are allowed to serve alongside men these days and the same is true of a woman and man serving together, so that doesn't really hold up.

I really have no idea why someone couldn't be openly gay and serve in the military. It mystifies me.

But the thing is... women aren't the same as men. At least, I don't believe they are. There are biological differences, including how they think, how their brains work.

Gay men and women aren't the same thing, even though there's a chance gay men have brains more similar to women, but not completely.

I haven't read any anecdotal stores of gay men in the military, but from my own personal gay perspective, I could see it being hard to start shooting up a bunch of hot guys from another country.

I mean, suppose I was ordered to open fire on a bunch of Iraqi guys all gathered together in an outdoor shower... tight buns and long penises all soaped up and dangling around... kill such an erotic scene?

I'd be crazy to.

I never said they were. But don't you think the implication that all gay men are raging nymphos who couldn't control themselves in a barracks full of other men a bit insulting?

Oh well we should just fill the ranks with a whole bunch of hardcore man-hating lesbians, then, that would solve everything...

Seriously, though, I've never even heard of this 'don't ask don't tell' thing. I kind of know someone on another site who is a lesbian and in the military, maybe I'll ask her about it...

I think you've got war and porn mixed up.

Alright, well, still talking about gays in the military, think about this:

What if American troops (most of them men) were out there fighting a mostly FEMALE army?

Imagine these guys:

Up against an army of Playboy bunny types (or Nebbit avatar types).

Are they going to open fire? If so, with which gun?

What if it was an army of PREGNANT women our good old boys were fighting out there in desert? (probably a bad example, since they could use the excuse that they're killing male fetuses that'll only grow up to become killers... and plus, pregnant women aren't as hot as non-pregnant women, except to those who purchase the speciality DVDs).

I have a penis and I like penises. I don't wanna kill penises (unless the penis belongs to an ex or some ho). Straight army guys have penises and like vaginas... imagine their difficulty at killing vaginas.

I've seen our male American troops out in Baghdad or Afghanistan, wherever they're at these days -- whenever they're around the women, who are traipsing along in their veils/burkas at markets or places like that - the American troops just grab their arms and tell them to move to the side. They get out of the way... so that the heterosexual male troopers can kill their husbands/masters.

The women lose their husband, father of their children, sex partner -- they cry, cry and cry until one of them finally loses it and takes out a gun she's hidden down her throat and kills the American soldier that ruined her life.

Which brings me to another point... women have no problem killing men. They don't mind killing that which causes them to experience sexual lust. It's all over the animal kingdom -- female praying mantises biting off the heads of their male lover after sex! Women secretly have a thing for blood. If their slave owners would just let them loose, there would be entire armies of these women going out there in the desert, shooting everyone they come into contact with. They don't need the American men -- they haven't impregnated them. They aren't planning to. SHOOT TO KILL, the women are thinking.

Gay men don't think that way -- we want the soldiers to play with the gun that God gave 'em! We know that those guns always have a full daily supply of bullets ready to blast us. LOVE BULLETS.

Gay men who go into the military are RUINING OUR REPUTATION!!!!!! They're advocating MURDER, not peace.

Lesson for today:

Gay men want PEACE!!!

Women want BLOOD!!!

Straight men want BOOBS!!!!!!!!!

My life isn't written very well.
I'm gay, I was in the military. Consensual sex happened. I'm not ashamed. I was willing to go into combat if need be. The larger picture overshadows that of same sex relations in my opinion.

It's a stupid policy that needs to be abolished. And I believe Obama isn't exactly backing down as much as he has (wrongly, imo) decided not to fight this right now.

Of course, this begs the question about why we are so stupid as to dismiss a serviceman who spoke Arabic. Seems being gay overshadows the possible good this man could do.

America is a backwards country, I'm sad to say. And the fact that this is even a question or a problem pretty much sums up how backward we are.

I'm bitterly disappointed that Obama is allowing the bullies to bully him into not stopping this ridiculous policy.

Why should gay's/lesbo's not be allowed to join the army? Thats the most retarded political arguement the old hoots up in congress have come up with. If someone wants to love there country and serve for it then let them. If you take that away thats like stamping a big **** YOU on their forheads and not permitting them to love there country. Thats absolutly retarded, no one should be denied serving their country.

Lesbo's.... I'm sorry, I find that word funny. It sounds like the southern version of lesbians.

The Roman army and I think maybe the Spartans actually encouraged homosexuality among their soldiers as sort of the ultimate esprite de corps. There were stories of homosexual Roman soldiers tying themselves together so if one fell in battle, the other would stand and die beside him.

And don't forget, Alexander the Great had his homosexual lover with him as he conquered the world.

Gosh, certain sectors of the US government; perhaps some religious conservatives, should encourage gays to join the military. Just think they could wipe most of them out in the fields of heavy combat!
