ban mr.purandara?

Maybe the spirit of my post wasn't clear. I never said he has a legal right to be here or speak his mind, I just said that I hold the belief that people have a right to say what they like, no matter how odious their opinions. That's something I carry in both reality and in this virtual mess. Sorry.

I'm aware he has personally offended people here, and if I'm honest it's not something I understand. Maybe I'm just cold to the core, but nothing I've ever read in a forum has got through to me. I mean, if Purandara was, say, a mayor or a police officer it'd be a different matter. I'd be outraged. The trouble is, in reality he's not in a position of power or influence, he's a 25 year old mature student at some university somewhere. For some reason that fact makes him amusing to me, rather than menacing. I don't believe for a second he's actually worn an SS uniform, he mentioned in another thread he's dirt poor enough to consider a saving of $20 a boon that allowed him to eat. Patent leather's expensive stuff. Anyhow, actually pulling a stunt like that takes the sort of conviction and courage someone who feels the need to get their attention fix from the internet is unlikely to have.

Maybe I'm being overly cynical or charitable, but he honestly seems harmless to me. His posts are interesting and, well, if they annoy you it is possible to ignore them. In my experience people who feed off controversy tend to move on of their own accord when their schtick gets old anyhow. So, the people who want him gone will probably have their wish in the end. I'd rather it didn't coming to banning, though; It's a capitulation as well as a shame.

Samson - Lofty Liberals have to exist somewhere, I'm afraid. you'll be glad we do if a real life Purandara ever gets into government. Until then you're going to have to put up with us defending Danish newspapers and tacitly endorsing the general breakdown of society. Sorry.

I had a thread deleted wherein I asked what that popcorn icon was and called everyone here a bunch of arsefaces and he gets to keep posting after the likes of whatever he said ?(I have no idea what he said). How is that fair?

Given that I enjoy posting here because society hasn't broken down here, you'll have to forgive me if I get vocal about those who diminish its value.

When you've looked around here a little more, you will likely realise that I, too, am very liberal. I just see message boards as a party where the host has graciously thrown open their doors, rather than a public place. This board is not just a random collection of posts by strangers, it's a community. So someone coming in with hate speech (be it against Jews, blacks, homosexuals, women) is putting himself at odds with the Terms of Use of this site, which were put in place by the guy who pays the light bill. And the value of the community is the people who come here regularly and post, so when those people see their place getting smeared with nastiness, they have a right to gripe, seems to me. Or, as has been more the case here, to discuss the situation.

Exactly. Also, Purandara has muted his more offensive tendencies a bit. Even if he hadn't, however, you were not banned for your comments just as he was not banned for his, so I don't see what's supposed to be unfair about this.

Humm, again there appears to be a misunderstanding. I'm not saying Purandara has a right to be here, all I'm saying is that it is my own personal belief that people shouldn't be censored for their opinions. If the powers-that-be decided to boot him out of this place I wouldn't hit Amnesty International on my speed-dial, I just wouldn't agree with that decision and mumble impotently to myself about it.

Adidass asked if he should be banned, I stated my opinion that he shouldn't and my reasons for it.

I'm against it. In all truth, I like most Mofo's and don't generally favor capricious needling just to get a reaction, but the situation is different from some of the other bannings. The (frankly paranoid) comparisons with Django don't really work, that guy was clearly an idiot savant at turning semi-reasonable arguments to nonsensical drivel and getting wildly defensive over the most minute and rational disagreements, while Purandara seems to have gotten at least as well as he's given since joining. And at least one time I've seen him bow out to Yoda, which is a hell of a lot more than you can say for Django.

I don't know really. I'm not really willing to assume he's not what he says he is (a nazi sympathizer), I've known enough black-metal listening odin worshiping nazi fetishists (many of them ironically jewish, and constantly interrogating everyone they met as to their geneology) to not second guess people on that bizarre claim. Still, I'd be a little sorry to see him go, he's made a lot of surprisingly insightful comments (again, more than you can say for any past banees). I might feel differently if there was some evidence he was somehow chasing all the black and jewish people away from the community, but nobody has even made that claim here.

He stands for about everything I do not, and I know he just trys to start things for the sake of it. He is a big whiner and a complaint artist and if M. Moore ever had a minnie me it would be Punjab. But nah, nothing yet warrants banning. I like a good debate and I like to be able to vent, so if nothing else Punjango, you fit that bill.

I haven't been around as much as I used to be lately so am not as well acquainted with Pu-run's posting habits as some of the rest of you are… however, one of his recent threads was removed from the boards and while the thread itself was nothing more then a link to a Lebanese newspaper, the title Pu chose for the thread is enough for me to vote for him to be escorted from the forums…
