First I want to say I care about 3 things --- comedy, movies, music.

I've seen hundreds of stand-up on TV, internet, and many live.... I don't want this just for me, so if everyone who wants to find more, list down your favorites, and maybe someone has good recommendations based on what you type?

I'll even rate mine in order

1. Mort Sahl
2. Bill Hicks
3. George Carlin
4. Louis CK
5. Bill Burr
6. Dick Gregory
7. Doug Stanhope
8. Mitch Hedberg
9. Dave Chappelle
10. Dov Davidoff

Jim Gaffigan - his "Beyond the Pale" show is one of my all time favorites.
I especially like Jim's stand up because he usually avoids excessive cursing or being vulgar - I remember actually watching this with my parents without them wanting to turn it off due to cursing or graphic sex jokes.

Peter Kay and Stewart Lee are really the best I've seen in the last twenty years.

That elusive hide-and-seek cow is at it again
You might like Hannibal Buress based on your list. He had a really nice documentary on Netflix that followed him to a comedy festival that lasted like a month.

I saw a bit of his stand-up on YouTube after he mentioned Bill Cosby. I don't remember anything, but I'll check him out in the future. Thanks!

I'm sure you've seen Brian Regan. He's a very funny guy without using gutter language. He's getting a little older, but he still can bring it..

Since you mentioned Sahl and Carlin, you have probably been exposed to Bob Newhart's original standup. If not, you should check it out, though it can be hard to find.

I liked some of the stand up albums I heard from Demetri Martin.

Some of his stuff reminded me of the quirky & low key humor of Steven Wright (always done in monotone) which is classic.

Saw Newhart live in Atlantic City when I was 15 (that would've been circa 1980).
I was underage and not allowed into the casino showroom, but SOMEHOW my aunt got me in! It's true what they say - in real life he and his best friend Don Rickles were the opposite of their stage & screen personas: Rickles was a sweetheart & Newhart was quite the "blue" comic in live shows.

The Adventure Starts Here!
Gotta echo praises for Jim Gaffigan and Brian Regan.

Also, I was delighted when Emo Phillips opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic in last year's Ill-Advised Vanity Tour. He's gone gray, but he's still his same really odd, quirky self. And he was HILARIOUS. My friend and I went in as skeptics that he could still be funny, but we were soon laughing hysterically at him.

That's also what I do for entertainment, being music, films and comedy.

I'm a bit racist you know, anything that isn't black I don't like it. Or at least as much.

» Eddie Griffin
» Katt Williams

These are the two I idolatre, I don't give a damn about there personal life.

For some white ones there are only a few I handle, one of my favorites being:

» Rodney Dangerfield
» Steven Wright

I have many comedians I don't like, Bernie Mack for instance.

It's not what you say, is how do you say it, that's how I see comedy.

I listened to all the 50/60s guys, Newhart, but just didn't do it for me.. But I did like this record, probably the only time I liked impressions, but there's some funny lines, too.. "Pat, Pat (Nixon), close the door"... Gabe Kaplan even plays a character (not the funniest section, though)

Where the white comedians lost me, they make jokes about every day life be depressing, like politics.
Look how politics comedy should be made:

Insurgent Friends - Katt Williams

The Wall - Eddie Griffin

I agree. Newhart's comedy was a riot, and hugely popular starting in 1960/61. It was the transition era from Eisenhower to JFK, and society was much different then: civilized, more subtle and circumspect. Cool jazz and sophistication were "in". Johnathan Winters was coming up, and Shelley Berman had been wildly popular. Comedy itself was transitioning from a guy standing on stage telling jokes to more situational comedy-- which has pretty much lasted through today.

_____ is the most important thing in my life…
Tom Segura, Christina P, Anthony Jeselnik, Norm Macdonald
Are you a Mommy? Sounds like your jeans may be high and right

Jo Koy is the only one I haven't seen listed. Well, and the Coz. There are plenty of bad people that made great art. Himself is one of the greatest of all time. May be better than Delirious and he didn't use any filth-flarn-filth.

My jeans are as high and tight as they get. Bert is fat.

Watched a one hour concert by ventriloquist Jeff Dunham, taped at large arena. He's reportedly the highest grossing touring comedian in the world.

Dunham is an excellent technician, up there with Terry Fator IMO. He features about 5 or 6 dummy characters. His material dips into the gross at times, but it's very mild in comparison to most these days. He's probably in the hard PG-13 area, but Dunham is good enough that I'd watch another of his presentations.

Bill Bailey
Dylan Moran
Shame about these two as they're not nearly as funny as they used to be. Bailey's early Part Troll was brilliant but I saw some of Qualmpeddler recently and it was apalling. Moran's Off the Hook was okay in places. At least I've got Black Books to go back to .
