Rank the Scream Movies

Slasher Specialist
I'd rather rank the opening kills.

(Weakest)

#6. Scream 5
WARNING: spoilers below
It wasn't even a kill! By far the worst.

#5. Scream 3
WARNING: spoilers below
Not a bad setup, but it was just kinda blah. Could've used a little nudity.

#4. Scream 4
WARNING: spoilers below
Fun.I was grinning the whole time.

#3. Scream 2
WARNING: spoilers below
Man, Jada sold that shit. Very brutal opening, and one that made me check behind me in the theater.

#2. Scream 1
WARNING: spoilers below
Classic. This is what built the franchise.

#1. Scream 6
WARNING: spoilers below
Finally! Finally they say "slasher" instead of "scary movie." Maybe it's because it's new and fresh in my mind, but I just loved this setup and then the little twist. My mouth dropped when Ghostface pulled his mask off right at the begining.

(Strongest)

I think that maybe I saw 1 & 2, along with "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Final Destination" all these horrors fit together like their own niche of the time, different in tone and depth from the usual hack n chop movie, more fine in many ways. I couldnt rate them on memory and would have to get them and see how well they aged. The only thing I can remember from Scream was the antagonist running back and forth trying to catch his victims in a maze of sound proof windows.

Scream 2. Gale and Dewey scenes. Fabulous.

Still need to see 6, but for what it's worth...

Scream (1996) -

Scream 4 (2011) -

Scream (2022) -

Scream 3 (2000) -

Scream 2 (1997) -

As far as I'm concerned, none of the sequels touch the original, but 4 and 5 have been the best since.

I should probably rewatch 2 and 3, which I haven't seen in decades, but I remember I had an averse reaction to the second one, even though I have it with the same rating. I know most people put the third one at the bottom, but I think at that point, I went in with low expectations and it didn't hit me as the second one did. Then again, it's probably 20+ years since I last saw both.

Most recent is easily the worst IMO. My wife and I both struggled to finish watching it. I disliked pretty much every character, and couldn't bring myself to care about anything that was happening.

My ranking would probably go:

Scream
Scream 4
Scream 5
Scream 2
Scream 3
Scream 6

I re-watched some entries and rethought ranking of the franchise, which now is following:

Scream 1

Scream 4

Scream 5

Scream 2
+
(I disliked killers reveal, but preceding two thirds were great fun.)

Scream 6
-
(The more I think about it, the less I like it and the more infuriated I become. They were thinking about sequels instead of making a good movie. The "killings" were ridiculous, except the first two. The beginning was the best part of the movie. If it wasn't Scream movie I would rate it terrible.)

Scream 3
(I might be too stupid for this, because entire running time I was confused about what was happening and why.)
