Thursday Next's Avatar
I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
There are films in your all-time top 20 that don't merit more than 7.5/10?

I haven't seen a lot of those so won't rate, but with the exception of West Side Story and Lawrence of Arabia which are both excellent, I'm afraid I don't seem to share your taste at all...

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
West Side Story; 8.5/10

Easy Rider 8/10

Dirty Harry 8/10

Gran Torino 7/10

Good Will Hunting 7/10

Georgy Girl 6.5/10

West Side Story 7/10

Lawrence of Arabia 8.5/10

Easy Rider 6.5/10

Dirty Harry 7/10

Gran Torino 8.5/10

Good Will Hunting 6/10

Georgy Girl 6.5/10

Sound of Music 5/10 - I don't think I could sit through that again. First and only time of seeing it was one wet afternoon in a fleapit cinema in a North Wales seaside town circa 1968. We were on holiday and my mum and dad must've got desperate for something to entertain us kids. Dire, specially wearing wet anoraks.

Monster that Challenged the World N/S

Fantasia 6.5/10

Fantasia 2000 N/S

The Graduate 8/10

Gimme Shelter 6/10

Billy Jack N/S

Midnight Cowboy 9/10

A Hard Day's Night 9/10 - now this was an altogether better cinema experience. Our local flicks just two minutes away, a bunch of us kids and some mums all excited to see the Beatles on the big screen. We'd seen them for real a few weeks earlier parading on an open top bus at the bottom of our street on the main road from the airport to town waving at everyone. Seeing my mum and her friend swooning over John Lennon was a little freaky - good job my dad wasn't there...

French Connection 9/10

West Side Story
I've only seen it twice and the second sitting was more of a bind than the first was. But then, it is a musical and I'm not a fan.

Lawrence of Arabia
I know it's a 5/5 on merit, but I'm rating these personally, not on merit.

Easy Rider

Dirty Harry

Good Will Hunting
I've not seen it for a few years, but I really love this film.

Georgy Girl
I hate this.

Sound of Music
I hate this more.

The Graduate

West Side Story – A

Lawrence of Arabia - A

Easy Rider – D (I never was into hippies and the drug culture. Only thing worthwhile in this film was Jack Nicholson but on the opposite hand was the always awful Fonda boy.)

Dirty Harry (the First one ) F

Gran Torino – N/A

Monument Avenue – N/A

Southie – N/A

Good Will Hunting – N/A (I know I’ve seen it, but can’t remember a damn thing about it)

Georgy Girl – B simply because James Mason is in it. It’s always a pleasure to watch him work.

Sound of Music – F (There are no “good” Nazis; besides it was an ex-wife’s favorite film. And I hate the music.)

Monster that Challenged the World – C (if it’s the one I’m thinking of)

Fantasia (the original one) - A

Fantasia 2000 – N/A (saw it but can only remember it wasn’t nearly as good as the original)

The Graduate – B (Could have been A but it lost points when Hoffman gave up sexy Anne Bancroft for uptight, big-shouldered Katherine Ross. I never did like Ross in any of her roles.)

Gimme Shelter – N/A

Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill – N/A

Billy Jack - F

Midnight Cowboy - A

A Hard Day's Night – F (But Help! was much better, probably because it actually had a plot and good professional actors. I’d give it a C, maybe even C+)

French Connection – D+

I'm just going to assume that that "F" just stands for "First one".
