The 2008 Summer Olympics

So who's been watching these things? I've never been an Olympic nut or anything but, for whatever reason, these ones have had me hooked since the breathtaking opening ceremony. It helps that they're the summer games. I guess the fact that the US seems to suck such monkeys in the winter is a big factor in this, but I can't watch the winter Olympics. I mean, at least the summer has a few recognizable sports and some level of genuine excitement.

This year is even better, though. Maybe it's just because Beijing has done a really tremendous job hyping everything. I dunno, there just seems to be a lot more of those compelling storylines we all love so much. In virtually every sport that I care about, there's someone or something for me to root for. I haven't felt this patriotic since the '06 World Cup.

Last night was one of the most exciting things I've ever seen. It was the finals of the 4x100 freestyle men's relay. The French team had been talking a lot of smack, saying they were gonna smash the US and whatnot. Well, they didn't count on anchorman Jason Lezak's amazing comeback in the last leg of the race. Team USA nabbed the gold and preserved Michale Phelp's bid to break Thorpe's gold medal count. Apparently, it was the greatest relay in the history of the Olympics as five of the eight teams who participated shattered the former world record for the event. Good stuff.



USA! USA! USA!

Yea, I could hear my mom yelling last night during the 4x100 Freestyle Relay, so I came into the room to catch the last few seconds of it.

So far, I've caught some pretty exciting stuff. Our beach volleyball teams are kickass, and it's my favorite event. That mixes for some good matches.

Love the Olympics, summer and winter. You get to see so many interesting sports that you normally never even hear about. This year is even better than ever there is a ton of it on TV, more than any year so far and a good chunk of it is on live as well.

Going to be watching to see if Phelps gets number 3 tonight.

Howver, over the years there have been some great moments.
I like the weightlifting.

Dont get me wrong. Im behind the USA all the way, but China OWNS at gymnastics. DID Y'ALL SEE THAT???? Those guys were off the freakin' CHAIN man!!!!

did you see Phelps in the 200m freestyle. that man is a robot only he don't rust in the water...

China = very impressive (all round, total of 9 golds so far i think). Kicked a*** in the gymnastics.

Is it just me or does EVERY SINGLE swimmer have terrible teeth?

That's because all of their gymnasts are nine years old. Seriously, they weigh like 60 pounds. That's ridiculous.

I thought they looked a little small when I was watching the floor excercise last night.
