Here's my dog solo lying down and one with her brother who both made their way from Texas to Toronto together and we reunite them every few months. Can't remember when these were taken.

So cute. Your nephew & his kitten.

Now you've done it. Got me talking about our furry kids. Herewith ..

On the left, Master Yoda. He's 14, nearly blind, but still very healthy and perky.

On the right, Princess Leia. She's 10, still a handful.

Great names.

Are you a big Star Wars fan?

I'm planning on cosplaying in March at our local comicon as a Dark Sister.

I just need my lightsaber.

It started in the car ride to go pick up Yoda. Our son David, then 11, was with us, along with twin nieces, age 8. The subject of names came up, and they could only throw out standard names like Spot and Lassie and such. I just didn't want it to be boring, so began tossing out anything weird I could come up with. When I came to Yoda, the kids all yelled in unison, Yoda! And it stuck.

When my wife and I picked up Leia, I wanted to keep up the theme so we could introduce them as a set. It was then that it struck me, circa 2010, that there weren't many key female figures in the Star Wars universe. Queen Amidala was just too much of a mouthful. So Princess Leia it was.

There was a time when we thought of getting an all-black small dog just so we could name him Darth.

The original Star Wars (aka New Hope) will always be a sentimental favorite because it came along just as I was transitioning out of college into adult life and beginning to rekindle my movie addiction. Saw everyone one in the theater when they came out, regardless of the occasional disappointment. Haven't dipped into any of the animated series, but it's only a matter of time.

I'd like to take in a Comicon sometime, but I'm the type who would prefer to walk anonymously among the crowd! Good luck constructing your lightsaber. Hopefully you can get a good deal on a Kyber crystal.

The Adventure Starts Here!
New potato at my house! Haven't had a pet these past few years while dealing with my mom's health issues (and eventual passing) and the chaos of our house repairs/restoration. Found this little cutie at a shelter more than an hour from my house and picked her up on Sunday afternoon. Her name is Mavis Beacon.

How fast can she type?

Yay! Somebody understands the reference!

My kids learned to type using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing (including our Yoda, who is the fastest accurate typist I've ever seen). And, of course, as a writer and typesetter, I spend a lot of time typing.

I guess for a guinea pig, though, her software would be called Mavis Beacon Teaches Wheekin'!

I think most kids in my generation learned to type using Mavis Beacon.

I never heard of it, but then I’m British.

I taught myself to type & I am not boasting if I say I was the fastest typist anyone had ever seen & a typist who could perfectly spell. I’ve always loved to type.

I'm also mostly self-taught (been typing since age 10 when I got my first typewriter), but I also took Typing in ninth grade and had to learn better positioning of hands on the keyboard. Wish we'd had Mavis Beacon when I was first learning (the software, not the guinea pig).
