The Most Romantic Movie of All Time

Tools

Here's a question for you ladies in the forum. I think Two for the Road is one of the most romantic stories ever filmed, but every woman I've ever watched it with--girlfriends, wives, daughters--seem to hate it. What is it about that movie that turns women off?

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
I believe that's a good question, ruffy, and since none of our fair ladies have answered it yet, I asked my wife and daughter about it. My daughter Sarah actually asked me to buy it after I showed it to her as a rental, so that means she loves it, but I really want to pass on what Bre (pronounced with a hard e) just said. She said, "I've always liked it. Tell them that your wife and daughter like it, and the last time you checked, they were women." Amen. I can verify Brenda, but Sarah is well past the age where she wants me anywhere near her when she's changing clothes. Maybe I can post some of her baby pics, but I'd probably get the site removed by the Feds for kiddie porn.

I too am not a lady, but I can tell you both my Special Lady Friend and my younger sister, both of whom are certified female human beings, both love Two for the Road. With M'Lady if we're out to eat anywhere and the conversation lags one or the other of us will invariably ask, "What kind of people just sit in a restaurant and don't say one word to each other?".

I normally like Audrey Hepburn movies... but have never seen Two for the Road ... so can't comment... I am, however, adding it to my "to see list" ...

I thought I recognized the title, but after looking it up, I've never actually seen the movie.

I thought the same thing but when I looked it up, realized I'd never seen it either... I finally decided it might have been Three for the Road with Charlie Sheen that I had been originally thinking about.. which I know I saw years ago but have no idea if I liked it or not now...

But consider the reason you advanced as applied to the prostitute played by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, did that character really seem like she couldn't earn money except by prostitution? Or was it she couldn't earn as much money as she wanted except as a prostitute?
As i grow older i realise things are not black and white. There psychological issues that causes one to do certain things.

A woman may take the easy route and become a prostitute because she had been neglected and rejected by conventional society.

And you may be thinking "thats rubbish. people are just being lazy and using that as an excuse" etc. But i used to think like that too until i grew older and experienced certain things myself.

When one feels their world has collapsed they need strong support and love and someone who is willing to listen to their problems before they can be positive again.

A few simple words from strangers like "Be strong. There are worse things out there. You're life is not as bad as other peoples. There are people with no food but you have plenty" etc is absolutely useless and does not help a single bit.

But put it on a more personal basis, if a prostitute really was acceptable in our society as a love interest, the way they are in the movies, would you want your brother to marry one? Or your daddy?
If i said what im gonna say on tv then the media would have a field day "FBI is a madman. He loves prostitutes" blah blah.

The answer to your question is yes.

If a woman is a manageress of a hotel or some fashion magazine but was a nasty person then that wouldnt mean a thing to me. I would not want my brother/daddy to marry her.

But if a prostitute was a decent person and i got to know her, what was the circumstance that led to her becoming one and what was good inside her heart then i would be perfectly happy that my brother/daddy marry her.

I have learnt to judge people by their integrity and genuine kindness. Not by their postition in society.

Nottinghill, I tell you all! lol

No, but seriously, most romantic film of all time? I'd probably agree with all the people who listed Say Anything.... I caught that one at just about the perfect time in my love life and it's always stuck with me. It's a good choice, but for those with even more offbeat tastes, how 'bout Cusack's lesser know 80's cult classic, The Sure Thing? It's not as heavy or significant as Say Anything... and I can totally understand why it doesn't resonate as much as that one. But The Sure Thing is charming, witty and Cusack and Daphne Zuniga are just about perfect in the leads.

I'm coming in a tad late here, but that ended up being the movie I was thinking of, as well. I also have no clue if I liked it, or not. I can't even remember watching the whole thing. I don't think I did, outside of catching bits of it while I worked.

There's a good chance it didn't do much for us.

I would say...
The Quiet Man, with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.
It took a few viewings for me to realize that it was in fact, a love story, and at that point it grew on me.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Yes, Slug. It's got many of the most romantic scenes ever in it. Specifically, the completely silent scene where Thornton holds Mary Kate tight, the scene in the rain where she takes off her stockings and he takes off his bowler, and the post marriage scene where the cronies show up and see a broken bed.

Why's there a gun in your trousers?
most romantic movie of all time....Planet of the Apes...think about it...go ahead, ill wait...yeah....

Seriously though...Most romantic movie ever made

TRUE ROMANCE

The title says it all people. A man who is all alone in the world, set up on a date with a rookie hooker and falls in love instantly. They get hitched steal some cocaine and run from the mob. If that doesnt say romantic, then all you need to see in the movie is the scene after Cristian Slater goes back to his apartment after "meeting" with Patricia Arquette's pimp. He tells Patricia Arquette what he did and her reaction is priceless. The movie is amazing in every way. Plus it has Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman, James Gandolfini, the AMAZING Christopher Walken, and probably the coolest part that Brad Pitt has ever played. To top it off it was written by Quentin Tarantino. And Elvis is their Guardian Angel! I think it is one of the best movies made in the 90's and easily the best love story/romantic flick that men and women can truly enjoy.

Personally WALL-E is one of the most romantic movies, honestly.

Stardust, Princess Bride are others.

titanic is the romantic ever movie for me

I loved Titanic. It was romantic and had that off the wall quality that I enjoy in a movie.

Also, Say Anything. I love the ending of movie.
