I've seen them in concert and I was fortunate enough to meet Davy Jones (and shake his hand) a couple of years before he died. It was kind of a disappointing experience, though, because he seemed cold... but if you've heard stories about Davy's depression and moodiness, that isn't totally surprising. Just when I told him I've been a huge fan all my life, he was looking down and just going, "Oh, really........."
And count me in as someone who had the TV show on VHS. DVD, too.
That is too bad, really. But I get what you're saying about why he may have acted like that.
I
almost got a chance to meet him. This was way back in '86 or '87, I think. It was when he wrote that book
They Made a Monkee Out of Me. He was in town signing copies of them. And there were so many people there. It wasn't funny. And we stood for
HOURS. And we were literally about 5-6 people back when he decided that he was done. So, we were so close but we just didn't get there. It was frustrating because of the wait. And it was so disappointing because it just didn't happen.
I still have to get all of them on DVD. It is on my list, but other money issues just keep popping up.
Did you only see them when it was Peter, Micky and Davy? I finally saw Mike in 2012. I didn't expect them to come here so I drove down to Chicago (honestly, I thought this was going to be a short tour that lasted a few months - so I took advantage of the fact that they were going to be with Mike). But less than a year later they were here. I was so mad. I could've saved the money on gas and I wouldn't have had to drive through such thick fog when I went home!
I didn't go see them then, though, because I just couldn't afford it right then - when they were here.
And as a side note, I can't hear that well out of my right ear. That is because of a Monkees concert, believe it or not. So, I have had not-so-great hearing since 1987.
Who ever would've thought it would happen at a Monkees concert that would do that damage to me?!
