No, he wasn't weak at all, as he suddenly came alive and zapped Jackson all over the place once his trickery had run it's course. Watch the subtle facial acting by McDiarmid in the scene. It was all a ruse, everything had proceeded according to his designs! All was going as he had forseen it! Oh....sorry...
WHAT?? Subtle acting in Star Wars?? Holden and Slay will string me up!!
No, really, McDiarmid elevated this film from mediocrity for me, and made it truely human and engaging to watch, as opposed to...Phantom Menace or something. He did have many subtle machinations in his schemes and his acting portrayed that idea quite well, I thought. Also, remember The Emporer took Windu down only after Anakin had turned and helped him to do it. It was all part of the grand design of the emperor, which was one of the coolest parts of the prequels, if not the coolest part. I thought Lucas really nailed those aspects of the prequels and Sith especially. He created an epic drama full of intrigue. As for why Sam Jackson sucks as a Jedi, remember, all any decent actor needs to do is get directed by Lucas to turn in a ****bum performance. How McDiarmid escaped this curse is beyond me...maybe he rewrote his lines and told George to leave the set when his scenes were filmed...
Also, quit picking on Leo people, Scorsese clearly respects his talent, and Scorsese seems to have a clue....
Overrated - Sean Penn
Underrated - John Goodman
Now that I have watched pretty much all the Coen's films, my respect for JG has skyrocketed. I LOVED his performace in Barton Fink. Perfectly cast....
