The MoFo Top 100 of the Fifties: The Countdown

Love both but i probably would've had Whats Opera Doc? as my one pointer if i didn't guess other people had voted for it, Rabbit of Seville may not have even been one either. Another reason i kept mentioning WOD? was because amazingly noone nominated it for the HOF.

You can't make a rainbow without a little rain.
Since we seem to be revealing our one-pointers, my #25 was Magnificent Obsession (1954), starring Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman, and directed by Douglas Sirk.

I was hoping that it would make the actual countdown instead of the one-pointers list, but I think most people prefer some of the other Douglas Sirk movies over this one.

Wauw, SL! That's impressive!

Thanks MM. I'm pretty sure that's right

I didn't really get much watching done for this countdown so must just have seen a lot of 50's movies

My #25 film was Noose (Polish: Petla) 1958 directed by Wojciech Jerzy Has

A normal man? For me, a normal man is one who turns his head to see a beautiful woman's bottom. The point is not just to turn your head. There are five or six reasons. And he is glad to find people who are like him, his equals. That's why he likes crowded beaches, football, the bar downtown...

noose looks intriguing, I'll have to try to find that one
Watching “The Noose,” it is hard to believe that this is a first feature film for Wojciech Has. (The Saragossa Manuscript 1965, The Hourglass Sanatorium 1973)
The plot is brutally stark and follows the day in the life an alcoholic...

I never could get the hang of Thursdays.

22. The Wages of Fear (1953)
23. A Man Escaped (1956)
24. On the Beach (1959)
25. Sapphire (1959)

I was a bit disappointed to see that so many of these didn't make it, especially ones I had seen mentioned a few times beforehand by different members, but it's always that way.

In the end I have seen 70 of the final top 100. I might do more of a write-up of the ones on my list that didn't make it when I get time.
