I really enjoyed Cannery Row, based upon the John Steinbeck novel of the same name. It starred Nick Nolte and Debra Winger, with superb narration by John Huston.

There was a lengthy dance bit with Nolte/Winger jitterbugging to Glenn Miller's In the Mood, which is one of the most humorous and empathetic I've seen.

Nolte and Winger are at their near best, and there's even a nice part by the redoubtable M. Emmet Walsh.

Can you guys please make a thread for every year in the 80s, thx
My personal favorites are already mentioned before by other people

If its just Hollywood, I would say, The Verdict, Sophie's Choice, Gandhi and Kings of Comedy stand out for me. Followed by the Thing.

Globally the picture would be quite different i guess.

Rambond, you can start such threads yourself you know. I'm sure you'd get some takers. I'd participate...

IMO The Thing (1982) was very well done, imaginative, and very enjoyable. As you might suspect though, I'm partial to the original, The Thing From Another Planet (1951), with James Arness (Gunsmoke) as the beast. It scared the hell out of everyone in the early '50s-- probably more so than the equivalent fright in the '82 version!..

You ready? You look ready.
Dafuq?!

Where's the love for Tron ya'll artsy fartsy snobs?!
