Rate The Last Movie You Saw

Indeed, three times I started watching this on three different nights and always nodded off around the same place. Finally managed to get through it all last night.
Did you actually get a bit bored, or was it just that you were too tired?

Condenados a vivir (1972)
aka Cut-Throats Nine

I told @Captain Spaulding that I was likely to rewatch this for the countdown and so I did. It's by far the most cynic and brutal western I know. It's a sour spaghetti served with some The Last House on the Left style of nihilism as a sauce (and even some horror-like hallucinations for dessert). It's sure to make my vote for the countdown.

I watched this because it was the last movie I hadn't seen from the current westerns list. It's out of Thailand, and the only link I was able to find was courtesy of CR but it didn't have subtitles. I finally found it on the free movie app Tubi. I didn't know what to expect but I didn't expect much. I wouldn't exactly call it a western. It's more a mix of multiple genres but I'd say the main one is romance. There's still plenty of action and violence though. It's just very different, especially stylistically, and I thought it was excellent.

The last movie I watched was The Shawshank Redemption. A terrific movie, also the #1 movie on IMDB with a 9.3/10 rating. A story of an innocent man who got framed for murder and sent to prison for a long sentence, who rose up in the prison and absolutely made the best of things including expanding the prison library, having a strong group of friends, combating wrongfulness, and I won’t give away the ending if you haven’t seen it but it’s one of the best payoffs of any movie I’ve ever experienced.
This movie could have been a Best Picture and Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor winner but 1994 happened to be the year of Forrest Gump which was also great and won those awards (the first two anyway). Tim Robbins stars and Morgan Freeman co-stars in this movie. Freeman is at his best and he also narrates the movie. I noticed Prison Break took some ideas from this movie which is a great series.

Jaws (1975) - 7/10. After watching Carrie yesterday thought of going back a year and re-visit this. It was fun. Not as fun though as I had when I first watched it 25 years ago. I don't know if it's the Discovery channel making me immune to sharks or not. But still a good watch. The shark does look a little dated. But can't blame the film makers for that.
I saw that movie when it came out, and to this day I can't go into the ocean over my waist/chest level... Prior to that I used to swim way out. The film was exceedingly well done.

It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!” ~ Rocky Balboa

Kimyo na Sakasu (Strange Circus) (2005) - 6.5/10. Strange indeed. My brain melted watching this. The initial part of the movie can be peddled as a soft porn flick. But the movie does a better job later on. It is definitely recommended for its weirdness. And is visually well crafted as well.

Crono Crimenes (Time Crimes) (2007) - 7/10. This was a really good watch. A simple plot made so nicely. The story is brilliantly written. Just goes to show you don't need millions of dollars to make an effective Sci-Fi movie. Twisted!

Extraction (2020) - 5.8/10. This was firmly a Chris Hemsworth show. The action sequences were shot masterfully. And they were breathtaking. But apart from that, there is not much else. Almost 0 character development. If you want mindless action and Hemsworth beating the sh*t out the villains, go for it.

Jeremiah Johnson (1972)

A touching epic about a man who goes into the wilderness to become a mountain man and live off the land. Along the way he meets a cast of interesting characters, makes friends, learns to survive, and becomes a legend. It made me laugh, made me feel warmth in my heart, but it also struck me with sadness and tragedy. Robert Redford did a fine job in the lead role.

Someone's Watching Me! (1978, John Carpenter)

John Carpenter's Rear Window. Pretty decent TV movie, with a few glimmers of the greatness that was to come (like that laundry room scene, for example).

I liked it too. One of the better films of this subgenre that I've seen.

Den of Thieves (2018)

When Pornstache and Cheddar Bob recreate scenes from Heat.

Tramuzgan's Avatar
Di je Karlo?
Monsters Inc. - 80/100

It really holds up to me as an adult. The story, as simple as it is, never loses its momentum. The jokes don't interrupt it either; they have that Megamind quality where they don't just make you laugh, but keep the scene going. It's all very imaginative too, totally up to peak Pixar standards. You have to see it to know what I mean.
