Thanks once again to Chyp for a fun and interesting tournament. I shamelessly pushed my entry to the top in an effort to give it a few extra points. No regrets! If the Smiths tune would have been Bigmouth Strikes Again, I would have had to put my tune in 2nd...

The Shins - Simple Song

The Czars - Little Pink House

Sivert Hoyem - Silences

Tove Lo - Habits (Stay High)

The Tragically Hip - Nautical Disaster

Ian Noe - Dead on the River (Rolling Down)

Backxwash - Burn to Ashes (feat. Michael Go)

I know a few of us don't place the classic or songs we've heard a lot too high, but in this set, I really couldn't have anything other than my favourite Kate Bush song as #1.

On a personal note, while I enjoy these tournaments, judging by about half of these winners I really dodged a few bullets if these were the best that was nominated.

Congrats to all those with songs in the Final and well done to Torgo on taking the win this time (and 2nd to boot too)

Warmest thanks as always to all those that took part, both new and old - I hope it proved an enjoyable experience/distraction and maybe some even found a new tune to hum or artist to explore.

Glad you all like those! Credit goes to my wife, who has much better taste in music than I do, for introducing me to The Shins. I discovered Sivert Hoyem during my other favorite internet pasttime: making random searches on Rate Your Music. He was in a band called Madrugada that's also worth checking out. It's too bad that song didn't end up on Twin Peaks.

Thanks for the contest, Chyp. When's the next one?

When's the next one?
Probably either September or October unless anyone else wants to run one prior to that.
'Grats again on the 1-2, not that easy to manage

I forgot the opening line.
I'm happy Simple Song won, it was one of my favourite songs of the whole comp and I've played it numerous times since. I'll have to check out more of The Shins' stuff. Congrats to Torgo, and many thanks to Chyp for hosting. My most-loved discovery was Wet Leg and I thought the song Chaise Longue the best. Simple Song came second amongst everything for me. Lots of other great stuff.

Godammit, I totally forgot about this. I would have had a lot of trouble ranking them anyways. But, just for fun, and purely off memory cuz I can't listen to them at the moment, this might be how I'd have ranked them

Dexys Midnight Runners
Kate Bush
The Smiths
Nick Drake
Tragically Hip
Wet Leg
Tove Lo
Don Williams
The Shins
Sivert Hoyem
Ian Now
The Czars
Backxwash
In This Moment

Not one bad song amongst the lot of them, and a lot of extremely good ones

Always a lot of fun. One of the best tournaments on this site, and always appreciate how open minded everyone is in it. Kudos!

Better late than never crumbs, glad you're enjoying these little distractions and in the spirit of good will I've incorporated your ballot into the scores and the winner is .....

Dunn dunnn dunnnnnnn

The Shins - Simple Song

Is there one of these every month?
I usually run one every three or four months but I'm not averse to others running them as well should they wish to.

Cool.

I'm too lazy to run one myself, but will consider joining the next one.
