So after just 38 days, Your Name has already made history and earned a very high place in the Japanese box office. It's the highest non-Miyazaki Japanese animation in box office gross already.

I wonder how far it can rank, possibly beating Spirited Away for 1st place ever in admissions at this rate. I though a movie like Seven Samurai was the 1st ever in admissions because in the 1950's Japanese ticket sales were much higher than today but apparently they were spread out through many different movies.

It's looking like Your Name is going to surpass all other Japanese films in the Japanese box office with the probably exception of Spirited Away:

The only three Japanese films above it are Miyazaki's.

Survivor 5s #2 Bitch
Did you watch the one Makoto Shinkai films?
The only other one of his films that I've actually seen is The Garden of Words, and apparently the main character in that appears in this film!
But it just looks like something I'd really enjoy anyway, so I hope I get to see it here.

It is now smashing the Chinese box office where it looks like will make more money than in Japan:

Earning 285 million yuan over opening weekend. That's equivalent to about 75 million dollars in purchasing power.

Cool that Japanese culture is also influencing the world's largest economy.
