How Much Money Will Star Wars Episode VII Make?

Tools

2.8 billion. Its far above other blockbusters, The Avengers grossed 1.5 billion by comparison and that a major success. Star Wars 7 will probably gross more than that but surpassing 2.8 billion will be difficult. Well, on its opening weekend Star Wars already grossed 3 times as much as Avatar did and both movies were released in december. When its harder to gross much compared to summer.

Opening on Christmas Break is the new summer.

Estimates are in: $238 million domestically, way ahead of Jurassic World. New opening weekend record, new opening day record, new Thursday night record and at some point we'll probably have it breaking the record for most broken records, which means you'll be using the phrase "broken record" enough that you'll start sounding like a broken record.
Well you can say it broke 100 billion records already: fastest movie to gross 100 million, fastest movie to gross 100 million and 1 cent, 100 million and 2 cents, ..., 1.1 billion.

Now you can do that for each country and US state and you can end up with trillions of new records.

The movie industry manufactures records. Adjusted for inflation the new movie is far behind many others and it will take a lot of tickets for it to surpass The Phantom Menace's domestic gross adjusted for inflation alone.

"""" Hulk Smashhhh."""
I can't see this movie beating Avatar, or Titanic.

TItanic made 1.8 billion on it's first run (then it was released again in 3D and grosses several hundred million more). Star Wars 7 already grossed 1.15 billion by the time I am writing this and it has been only 11 days since official release.

Yep, SW7 is hammering records.

Predictions are that the $4b Disney spent buying LucasFilm will be covered by SW7 alone.

It's just become the fastest movie to hit $1b too. In fact, 1.6b in only 10.5 days.

Its Avatar all over again for me. This movie isnt better then the original Star Wars and just because its making big cash does it make it better then the movie is. Avatar broke records too but i have not heard anything about the movie like The Titanic was so well received . Force Awakens is a fine movie but do i think it should beat the Titanic not really.

Funny you should say that... it's set to beat Avatar by Monday if the tickets sales keep going... and Titanic's record is also on the cards as well.

Star Wars 7, is the biggest selling movie ever.

Addition... the film hasn't opened in China yet... so be prepared for the numbers to jump massively.

The film has been out for 2 weeks and is already in 8th place of the Top 10 biggest sellers and that's without the China release.

This makes it harder on Rian and Episode 8 this massive hall. Would it be a failure if it only made 350 million after the star wars mad rush ended. I think any version of Episode 7 would have done this cause when get a star wars break over 10 years but also its a sequel too Jedi your gonna rake in the doe. Its where i am surprised yes but then again the Title has Star Wars with harrison ford as Han Solo on the poster.

Usually movies make the most money in the first 2 weeks. Avatar and Titanic were different and managed to make money for a couple of months, that was what made them special in box office terms.

Star Wars 7 is now 2nd place in the US box office all time, however, when correcting for inflation is not at the top 15 yet. It will probably not surpass the original Star Wars which made 1.5 billion corrected for ticket price inflation, while Star Wars 7 looks like it will make about 1 billion in the US box office. Problem is that outside of the US it's popularity is not that big, in Japan it has not made that much money in proportion and the same applies to France and Germany. So I still find it hard for it to surpass Avatar's 2.8 billion worldwide. But I am rooting for it because it's such a superior movie anyway.

We've gone on holiday by mistake
Inflation adjusted top 50

* Adjusted to the estimated 2016 average ticket price of $8.61. Inflation-adjustment is mostly done by multiplying estimated admissions by the latest average ticket price. Where admissions are unavailable, adjustment is based on the average ticket price for when each movie was released (taking in to account re-releases where applicable).

^ Indicates documented multiple theatrical releases. Most of the pre-1980 movies listed on this chart had multiple undocumentented releases over the years. The year shown is the first year of release.

Most pre-1980 pictures achieved their totals through multiple releases, especially Disney animated features which made much of their totals in the past few decades belying their original release dates in terms of adjustment. For example, Snow White has made $118,328,683 of its unadjusted $184,925,486 total since 1983.

Star Wars isn't popular outside the US?

Yeah ! I agree.
The Brits hate it.
This movie will break all money records.
I paid 10 bucks for a sofa seat with two prostitutes and I felt privileged.

Star Wars isn't popular outside the US?

Not really. Most Asian countries weren't accepting American films at the time of the original trilogy, so there's no sentiments value in that. Phantom Menace has the second highest % of its money made in America among all billion dollar movies, meaning that not a ton of people in foreign countries saw it, and those that did (probably) disliked their first taste of Star Wars. It's going to make money overseas, but it's not making Furious 7 money in Asia.

I hope Star Wars 7 overtakes Avatar.

I don't....but it will.

I would much rather an original film (debate all you want) be the top money maker than something that has a built in fan base almost 40 years strong.

That's just it, I would prefer it to be a movie that appeals to the nostalgia of classic movies, than one that manages to be remembered mainly by turning actors into CG blue cat people.
