Horror Movies

Do I look crazy????
I love horror movies as well. I'm not too much for just plain gore, I like more of a story. I think there have been some new ideas, they may just be few and far between. I thought 28 Days Later, which has become my new favorite horror movie, was brilliant. I've never felt so much for the characters in a horror movie as I did in this one. It thrilled me to the bone!

"The City of Lost Children" was another good one, and as far as I know, original. "Cabin Fever" was pretty gory for my taste, but I thought it was good and pretty fresh and "Evil Dead" still gets me everytime.

I must say that recent horror movies are no where near as good as the older ones ie Friday 13th, Nightmare on elm st and the Halloween series. The new modern films are more interested in showing off the gore and different ways of killing off the people. Also the storys are quite rubbish.

Saying that I do love seeing horror films even if they are at no where near the standard that you would expect from the horror genre.

I agree..
But I loved Saw I-IV...

I’m open to serious recommendations for some GOOD horror films in the vain of Rosemary's Baby and The Shinning... Barr a recent spate of Spanish films (The Orphanage was the best last horror film I saw) there seems to be a void... help any one ? There’s a chance if its old I might not have seen it.

p.s I’ve seen the Omen!

John Carpenter said that there are only two types of horror.

1. The horror on the outside - for example people attacked by a madman like in Halloween. Something external.

2. The horror on the inside - like the nature of the creature in The Thing that takes you over on a cellular level, leading to the paranoia of not knowing who's infected. Something internal.

I agree with him.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Yeah, but you don't need to be possessed by a "creature" to become paranoid. Internal, yes; have you seen The Innocents? (my last post?)

It was just an example.

No I haven't seen the innocents, looks interesting though.

The link in your "baby" post wouldn’t open as I’m at work and sometimes links are funny. Was the Film the innocents? I’ve just checked it out on IMDB. no I haven’t seen it, but I’ve read the book (turn of the screw) and didn't know they made a film out of it so that’s a double desire to watch it!

my theory from the book was the governess was molesting the children so will be interesting to see if that’s picked up in film.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Yes, The Innocents, a film I'd love to discuss, so please watch it before I mail everybody a copy, if need be. (I did that at another site, and I blew the guy's mind who I mailed it to.)

He did have a lot to say about it though.

No please mail me a copy. I know the book inside out so will be an interesting watch... i get like that with films too but id be sending out some weird s**t.

Unfortunately 'The Innocents' is going to have to take a place in the queue. I still have a pile of dvds I haven't got round to watching, including: -

Bombon: el perro
Dekalog (all ten hours)
The Street Fighter (Sonny Chiba)
There Will be Blood
Last Exit to Brooklyn
All About my Mother
Tie Me Up Tie Me Down
Live Flesh

I always liked A nightmare on Elmstreet.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Of the so-called 70s/80s horror franchises, Nightmare on Elm Street was much better than the Halloweens and the Friday XIIIs. Ok, now I understand that some of you don't believe me, but go ahead and watch them again, right now, and post your ratings. I would hope that you agree with me eventually.

Talking about horror movie, what do you think about Asian horror movie? Like Japanese and Korean horror movies? Even, Hollywood makes the remake of one of them, "The Ring" (a US remake of Japan's "Ringu")

Okay, I'm just going to say it, sitting through a horror movie today is real torture.
Recent movies, like; SAW I-IV, Hostel I&II, and Turistas are all Hollywood grade snuf films. They have no suspense or context, just a group of interchangeable jackasses placed in dangerous situations, all the while just wanting them to shut the hell up and just try to escape the situation, but no, instead like in Turistas after having been robbed and stranded in Brazil, they decide to blindly follow someone they don't even know and even go swimming.
The current belief is, the more gore and gut wrenching torture placed on screen adds up to more terror, not true, it just creates disgust and then boredom.
They are a modern day take on the old 60's and 70's grindhouse style of film making.

That's okay. Nobody's perfect!

You know, I've never heard of this film even though it is from my era. Just ordered it from Netflix and moved it to the top of my queue based on your recommendation. To me this was a golden age of film horror, before the arrival of blood. Thanks mark f.

I love horror zombie, I also say let the demon live! I wrote
a screenplay called 2013 After The Dead/2013afterthedead.com
I've started thinking about a sequel. Really I just want to make a movie and need the worlds help!

Horror has just taken a different shape as it has developed over time. It has grown to suit the needs of the changing age demographic. Instead of catering to a group of people, they are trying to take care of all people. So, today you must sacrifice some quality in story to sell the movie with blood and gore. The movie industry is still a business and you still need to turn a profit. You just need to see what sells to your current market.

I hope you and everyone else will love The Innocents. It's the creme of the creme for me. Ask me about anything you don't understand!
