I wasn't a fan of the original. I'll still give this one a go though.

Suspect's Reviews

Never seen or heard of anything from the director, he seems to have another film coming out next year as well. I've not seen the original yet anyway will have to get to that soon.

He did Call Me By Your Name, but the real star is the cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom who also did Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall his Past Lives.

I'm pretty excited for October, Halloween, Rear Window and The Shining are going to get re-releases so I can see three of my top 100 films on the big screen. And from what I've seen from Hellfest, Halloween, and Suspiria I'm going to have some good modern options as well.

This might just do nobody any good.
“A Deliriously Thrilling Banshee Howl of High Class Horror Porn.”

So... yeah.

Weird is relative.
It looks so modern. The original, while not a perfect film, was much better than this kind of over-dramatized, too-much-CGI nonsense.
Plus, Call Me By Your Name is basically about a pedophile pursuing a confused teenager, so... yeah. Not a fan of this director.

Heard it will be really polarizing, also heard it was a masterpiece. Awesome.

Yeah that post you responded to was from 2016, i've since seen Call Me By Your Name. Wasn't aware that was the cinematographer tho, awesome Uncle Boonmee looks incredible.

Looks very intriguing. I'll give it a shot.
I've never seen the original even though I heard about it all the time.

Yeah, nothing I’ve seen so far suggest that. We know Guadagnino’s a classicist.

I’m seeing more reviews coming out. Some comparisons to Aronofsky’s “mother!”

Shocking, visceral and eliciting strong reactions with no real middle ground.

That tends to be the case pre- and early-release. Kind of annoying. People want a movie to either be the best ever or the worst ever.

I’m excited that this is being described as “haunting”, which is what I really wanted out of the original but was left only with a few good thrills and a neat palette.

The trailer looks OK. I personally didn't mind the bumbling narrative of the original, and it was unique and original for the obvious reasons of the music and lighting/sets/camera work..this one seems the usual modern drab and dry with a few light shows thrown in here and there, but it's impossible to know for sure w/o seeing it. I'm not too interested. I wish more was done in the realm of originality that could be just as effective. Mixed feelings for sure.

I feel the same way now. The trailers seemed incredibly brooding and drab. It reminded me a little bit of DC films making everything dark. But the cast seems strong just like the original. Again, I still don't see why this needed to be redone, and if it's different and a departure from the original, don't bank of Argento's brand. But we'll see! I'm hoping it'll be a Hills Have Eyes ilk remake.

Wait, you're hoping it's akin to the Hills Have Eyes remake? Uhhhh....

I seldom understand why remakes are done of films that are perfect (Suspiria was perfect, even though it had laughable elements). It's as if o say "hey, watch me top your film and make it 180 deg different...but I loooove you, you're my heeeero!"

Dario not being happy about just goes to show that it's a combo of things beyond his rightful grudge. Studio execs wanna clean up on the cult market, writers have a chance to reiterate and make sense out a film that survived off of being nonsense..and some up n comer hotshot gets to direct it. At least BR2049 was a sequel.

And don't get me started on Ghostbusters from a year or two ago, Oh my God! You telling me that wasn't a sequel...they remade it and forgot the original universe, altogether.

Hollywood, I LOATHE youuu!

sorry.

I liked that remake it wasn't ground-breaking, but it was considerably better than the original I thought!
Sure, it wasn't bad, I just think this will be an incredibly different kind of remake. I'm not sure where the comparison comes from.

Guadagnino strikes me as someone who doesn't know when to quit though. He's gushed about a Call Me By Your Name sequel and I thought it was perfect as it is. Some of his choices seem a bit questionable for it too and I'm like sweetie...

I'd love to see him do a modern Giallo or something, but without pissing off Argento

Sure the original is perfect, it's one of my top three favorite horror films. I rep that sh*t with my phone case every day.

I'm still excited for this one, and I think if I got too precious about the original and dismissed this one, I might be missing out on appreciating a really great movie.

I made the comparison because most horror remakes are awful, but the Crazies/Hills were actually pretty decent ones that matched or improved on the original. Suspiria does have some gaping flaws, but I think that's part of its charm. Yeah I don't know why I made the comparison basically they didn't crap all over the original which I hope this doesn't.
