Favorite Foreign Actors?

We have a similar thread around here... because I know I posted Mads Mikkelsen, Stellan Skarsgard, Ulrich Thomsen, Kristoffer Joner, Ville Vartanen, Tommi Eronen, Peter Franzen and Tommi Korpela.. and most other Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish actors I have watched multiple times.

I also think Anna Magnani was great.. A force to be reckon with. She was always wise, and had a funny way of exposing bull**** with a flippant, cynical, or comedic line, along with her sarcastic smile. Setsuko Hara was predictable, but I loved her constant, eternal smile.

Grażyna Szapołowska
Javier Gutiérrez
Kang-Ho Song
Anna Cieślak
Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu
Choi Min-sik : People remember him from OldBoy, but he was even better in I saw the Devil.

"Honor is not in the Weapon. It is in the Man"
Takeshi Kitano (Japan)
Louis Koo (Hong Kong)
Song Kang-Ho (South Korea)
Mads Mikkelsen (Denmark)
Kristopher Gummerus (Finland)
Matti Onnismaa (Finland - watch Euthanizer for one of his best roles; he was also one of the main villains in Rendel)
Mickey Hardt (Swiss-born discovery of Donnie Yen; starred in the German series The Puma: Warrior with Heart)
Kim Rossi-Stuart (Italy)
David Sakurai (Danish-Japanese; recently appeared in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald)
Tomas von Bromssen (Swedish; great in My Life as a Dog as Ingemar's uncle)
Ken Watanabe (Japan)
Hitoshi Matsumoto (Japan)
Andy Lau (Hong Kong)
Serge-Henri Valcke (Dutch)
Huub Stapel (Dutch; love his collaborations with director Dick Maas - The Lift, Amsterdamned, Flodder, Sint)

Well, first of all, foreign from whose perspective? Are you asking about non-American actors? Or are you asking about non-British actors? Are you asking about non-English speaking actors? Or what?

The international distribution of film at its current level means that the term “foreign” really doesn't (and shouldn’t) apply to actors working at that level.

Are you asking about actors of certain nationalities who are less well known outside their own country? Then please phrase your question this way. As it stands, I find your question mildly offensive.

My actual list of international acting talent is too long to put down here. I’ve listed a few outstanding actors from numerous countries here, but this is a very limited list and is actually an insult to all the actors and actresses I haven’t named here. The number of outstanding Serbian and Turkish actors unknown outside of their own countries is enormous just on its own.

Marcello Mastroianni (Italy) - possibly the greatest film actor of all time

Anna Magnani (Italy)

Sophia Loren (Italy)

Virna Lisi (Italy)

Luigi lo Cassio (Italy)

Andrea Tidona (Italy)

Michele Riondino (Italy)

Yon Gonzalez (Spain) - of the younger generation, just wow

Concha Velasco (Spain)

Pep Anton Munoz (Spain)

Eloy Azarin (Spain)

Adriana Ozores (Spain)

Laura Morante (Italy)

Irene Papas (Greece)

Catherine Deneuve (France)

Isabel Huppert (France)

Charles Berling (France)

Gerard Depardieu (France)

Fanny Ardant (France)

Daniel Auteuil (France)

Isabel Adjani (France)

Fabrice Luchini (France)

Vincent Lindon (France)

Sandrine Kiberlain (France)

Romain Duris (France)

Mathieu Amalric (France)

Max von Sydow (Sweden)

Liv Ullmann (Sweden)

Bibi Anderson (Sweden)

Pernilla August (Sweden)

Sidse Babett Knudsen (Denmark)

Barbara Sukowa (Germany)

Hanna Schygulla (Germany)

Rade Šerbedžija (Serbia)

Rossy de Palma (Spain)

Carmen Maura (Spain)

Marisa Paredes (Spain)

Halit Ergenc (Turkey)

Berguzar Korel (Turkey)

Ahmet Rıfat Şungar (Turkey) - also of the younger generation, again, just wow

Ronit Elkabetz (Israel) - Elkabetz died of cancer in 2016 at the age of 52. She was probably the greatest actress Israel has ever produced - a phenomenon.

Hiam Abbas (Israel)

Mari Törőcsik (Hungary)

Gong Li (China)

Leslie Cheung (China)

Carlos Riquelme (Mexico)

Sonia Braga (Brazil)

Foreign to you.... Marcello is one of my favorite actors. He's not a Brando, but I enjoy seeing him in the 20-30 movies I've seen with him.

Btw, did you see "I Remember"? The almost 4 hour documentary? It's very good. I had to translate 5,000 lines of Portuguese!

my all time favorite foreign actors are:
Javier Bardem( Spain)
Sophia Loren (Italy)
Arnold Schwarzenegger (Austria)
Mila Kunis (Ukraine)
James McAvoy (Scotland)
Colin Farrell (Ireland)
Salma Hayek (Mexico)
Yon Gonzalez (Spain)

Sophia Loren (Italy)
)

I haven't seen too many movies when she's not with Marcello Mastroianni, and/or being directed by De Sica (Two Women, for example). I heard she just finished a movie..

Victim of The Night
Sidney Poitier
Max Von Sydow
Ingrid Bergman
Catherine Deneuve
Marcello Mastroianni
Javier Bardem
Charlize Theron
Toshiro Mifune
Nicole Kidman
Alain Delon
Juliette Binoche

I decided to throw out the Brits, there's just too damn many of them.

Lately, it's Rainier Bock, who was in The White Ribbon and season 4 of Better Call Saul as the lead engineer, which he's damn good in.

He's foreign? I thought he was American.

Then again, to paraphrase Chief Brody, everybody's foreign if you look at them from the water.

Patrick Stewart, Yul Brenner (born in Russia but had an American citizenship), Ian McKellen, Sean Connery, Kazuki Yao for Japanese voice acting.

Victim of The Night

Isn't he from The Bahamas?
