"American Gangster"

In the movie American Gangster why does the main character throw his fur coat into the fireplace ?

Because it's too flashy. He realizes that it is drawing attention to him, something he's been trying to avoid up to that point. He gives into the largesse, a few of the people beneath him resent the showiness, and he burns it to make sure he's not tempted by such distractions and decadence again.

Yes to all that. Plus, he was out of logs.

He Threw It In The Fire Because, As Yoda Said, It Was Too Flashy And Noticable. It Got The Cops To Notice Him, Which Led The Bad Cops To Wanting Money From Him, And Got The Good Cops Attention To His Drug Buisness, Which Eventually Led To His Downfall.
