I could be wrong, but I'm referring to his orgininal post on this one.
Jackie never said themed at all, just favorite 80's movie. I see no confusion.

I guess it threw me since the movies she mentioned were specifically teen movies from the 80's. I guess I would expect to see different choices from someone if they wanted to list their favorites from an entire decade. If those are her favorites then my mistake...

Here are some of my favorites from the 80's (revised)

Ghandi
The Last Emperor
The Meaning Of Life
Time Bandits
Terminator
The Empire Strikes Back
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
The Color Purple
Amadeus
Threads
Goodfellas
Scarface

...those are the main ones I can think of right now...

I'm pretty keen on Akira, myself. From memory, also Tampopo, Himatsuri, The Funeral, Black Rain [Imamura], Ran, Videodrome, Atlantic City, Matewan, A Taxing Woman, My Youth in Arcadia, Do the Right Thing, Red Sohrgum, Sex Lies and Videotape, Tetsuo, Mr. Vampire, Project A, Ghostbusters, The Thin Blue Line, Kiki's Delivery Service, The Gundam Trilogy, The Cook the Thief His Wife and Her Lover were all great. I'll have to come up with some more and put them in order soon though.

I liked Fitzcaraldo but actually it's my least favorite of the Herzog + Kinski collaborations, and Herzog had another movie that decade that I liked better, Where the Green Ants Dream.

"Raging Bull" for sure, though it seems more like a 70's movie. I'm going to have to say "Diner". I'd like to also mention "Goonies" and "Raizing Arizona" as eighties films which I really loved.

It's funny how the eighties was really bookended by the types of films which really held the spirit of its previous and upcoming decades.

The eighties opened up with "Raging Bull" (1980). A film which perfected the 70's directors vision era of the personal film, and closed with "Batman" (1989), a film which really helped pave the way for the 90's commercial before personal decade. Maybe I'm just thinking about it too much.
